| Quit Smoking and saving the $ for WDW I quite smoking...today is day 8...I calculated how much I spent in a month and on Monday I went to the credit union and will now have the money I've been spending on cigarettes taken directly out of my paycheck and deposited into my vacation club at my credit union....It adds up fast too..In Maine, cigarettes are taxed heavily so a pack a day(which is what I was smoking) is quite an expensive habit...I figured the cut in my paycheck will be a big motivator to keep me on track...

| Congratulations!!! This is exactly what I'm hoping my brother will do - quit smoking and save the cash for vacation. I can't believe the amount of money he spends on those things. It's gonna be really hard for him. Congrats to you -- keep it up, the money will add up in no time!!!

| Congratulations! I'm sure it's difficult, but doable! I wish my step-brothers would all stop - all three smoke - the youngest took it up as a 28 year old! I don't understand the amount of money they spend on it, myself. Hope your savings account grows rapidly. |

| For those of you who have never been addicted to smoking, just imagine waking up every morning feeling as if your best friend just died...... that's the feeling one gets when quitting. It's not as if smokers enjoy the smell, the coughing, or the looks from people who are discusted by it, or being ostracized by the mass public; it's a matter of the habits formed while smoking. Get up in the morning have coffee and cigarette. A friend calls for a long chat, have a cigarette. Type on the computer, have a cigarette. Have a beer with friends during a BBQ, have a cigarette. Have a fantastic meal, have a cigarette. The habit is more than the addicting nicotine, it's part of a lifestyle and no matter what anyone says or does, it is like losing your best friend when you quit. Think of something you love... say, Disney World (feel that's a pretty good analogy on this site!). What if someone told you that from this day forward you are never to visit DW again. Never to see Cindy's Castle, never to have a Dole whip, never to ride POTC ever again.... How would you feel about that? So people, for the love of all that's holy, don't harp on people to quit. They will do it when they are good and ready. Making them feel bad about their habit will not help them to quit but make them more determined not to lose their "best friend". If a loved one wants to quit and decides to do so, be possitive, supportive and don't ridicule them. It's not as if we want to die of lung cancer... think of it along those lines. Trust me, I am speaking from experience. |

| Thanks so much for the encouraging words..I will indeed keep everyone posted..Today is day 9..I've had the last three days off from work and even though I haven't smoked, I've eaten alot more junk than I normally do...but I'm packing a healthy lunch and snacks for work today and I continue to do deep breathing exercises...and Wyomom...That's exactly how I feel...a deep sadness but I am combatting it with positive thinking and looking forward to WDW

| As someone whose mother died of lung cancer, I commend you on your decision to quit. My mother always referred to cigarettes as "a little pleasure." I don't think she ever thought about the big pleasure she gave up-seeing her grandchildren grow up. The funny thing is, once my mother was diagnosed, she had no trouble giving up smoking. Keep up the hard work. Diane |
