| How carefully do you check your bills? My ex paid all the utilities when we were together and when he left, I would just pay them, not really looking closely at them. Last month, I finally called about a $9.95 charge I had been seeing and assumed was one of the kids buying something they shouldn't. It turned out it wasn't but a text that periodically came to my phone and I had most of my money refunded. I switched to bundled cable and phone and knew I would have a high bill. When I looked carefully, I was charged for the same thing three time-That toook $35.00 off my bill. I think I'll take a few minutes and examine all my bills now. | With a fine tooth comb. My DH is obsessive about every bill. We keep every single reciept and double check them against the credit card bill. And he also goes over each utility bill looking at ever itemized thing. Every month. It seems a little odd, but I think it's good to look out for yourselves!!!

| This is one of the reasons I refuse to go to e-bills...I like to be able to look over my bills and check everything over line by line!

| Since we live with mom, all the main bills come in her name so I leave her to check them over and like many others, she does it with a fine tooth comb. When it comes to my own bills, I do the same in a way. I have online access to my credit cards and I'm on there several times a week making sure everything is fine so when I get the paper bill, I don't even look at it except to make sure the balance due matches what the computer told me.

| I do check my bills over especially since years ago I was charged close to $500. for a charge that belonged to someone else. It was Christmas time and while I did make a large purchase, I know I did not make 2 of them. So I asked them for a copy of the 2nd charge. I got a paper with both charges copied on them. One of them was for a different name and charge #. I called the CC company and they did remove it. I can't help but wonder how the person copying them didn't notice the mistake

| DH pays the bills and I always left it up to him to check everything over. Since I am not currently working, I have taken over balancing the checkbook and I have been reviewing the bills, but not very closely. I need to start keeping a closer watch because last night when I was trying to balance the checkbook there was an amount on our statement that was $10 more than what I had written down. I no longer have the receipt so I am not sure if it was my error or the bank's error. I am going to start going over the bills much more carefully now!

| I double check my PHONE bill. Had some mystery charges show up and 1) the phone company could not fix them, and 2) has to accept the charges, without challenge according to federal law. Had to contact the alleged service providers, they stopped, but only one of them reversed the charges. (Always triple check my credit cards as I was a victim of CC fraud once)

| Very carefully. I check my bank balance almost daily and all the others when they come in. And I question charges I don't understand, even if they turn out to be legit (finance charges, etc.) I think the customer service people know me by name! ![]() We used to have an Exxon card that we used for fuel. I paid it online, and the next month, we had a $15 "late charge". The bill was due the 24th, I paid it on the 23rd and had a confirmation, but since it was a weekend, it got credited on the 25th, therefore giving me a late fee. I noticed it, called them and they refunded my money. Those small amounts can really add up! ![]()

| I check my closely as well. My local phone company that handles my home phone and my dd and my cell phone is notorious. I also pay my parents bills, Daddy has alzheimers and he is not able and mom never did pay bills. Anyway, about 6 months ago, mysterious charges showed up on my dd cell phone and my parents home phone. My parents do not have a computer, not internet access, and no knowledge of how to use any of it. They were charged a $40 charge from an internet site. My dd cell phone was charged roughly $120 from internet site. I fought and won and all charges were reversed. This month on the cell phone bill, it was $100 more than normal. I started checking it, and noticed that we had "went over" our minutes, got to looking at time and dates. Called the phone company, my dd's phone was not set up right - we were being charged for nights and weekends that were supposed to be free. They took those charges off and added bonus minutes back to compensate for the lost ones. I have to say their might be mistakes, but they seem to be really good at correcting them. So far, that is the only one I have had major problems with. |
