I know you can get room discounts thru AAA and discounts on tickets too. We actually got better room discounts from AAA than we did as passholders. Go figure. You can go on the AAA website and check out possible discounts at DTD restaurants.
If you book a trip package with AAA, you get a bunch of vouchers for things like a massage, free mini golf round, some other activity stuff that didn't interest us and a free basic Photopass. What the various perks are changes from year to year, so I don't know what may be current.
It does pay for some, depending on where you want to stay, to book via AAA. We do that because we needn't worry about the details. Our agent books the flight, does the room request with specifications for DH's disability, gets tickets for things like MVMCP, sets up our Passhopper and the like. We paid a deposit and will pay off the bulk in September for our November trip. We like doing that, because then all we have to worry about is making ADR's and getting ready to travel.
Room rate discount is generally from 10%-20% but may be so close to Disney's discounts that it's not worth it unless you really want the other stuff AAA offers. It pays to compare the two before booking.

We got a great discount with AAA at the WDW Dolphin hotel. It's not a Disney hotel but its on the boardwalk (in walking distance to both HS/Epcot). It gets all the perks of a Disney hotel except ME. Almost all of the restaurants in both the Swan/Dolphin also offer 20% discount w/ your AAA card.
Before we bought DVC we would always book with AAA. There were great perks including free pins & lanyards you could use for trading or fun luggage tags and other goodies. It's worth looking into the package if you are already considering the room discount. Also I a deal saw on our AAA site if you book 7 days at the Swan & Dolphin they give you $200 Disney dollars.
Not as good as a room discount but you can get 10% off your purchase at Earl of Sandwich. I didn't even have to show the card I just asked about the discount and the girl rang it up.

I wish I'd known that discount was available there. I ate there in Jan and then this month.
Every time I go to Orlando, I tell myself that I have to ask about AAA discount wherever I buy anything and I always forget. I also should do it at home....

Yeah, I know the feeling. We nearly always forget that, too, except when booking hotel rooms online. The chains we like best have a box to check for the AAA discount when you make the reservation. Then, you just show your card (or in our case, the smartphone app reproduction of the card) when you check in.

When I saw this thread, it gave me an idea to check the prices for tickets at AAA. We need to buy one adult ticket for our trip in July. I checked the price for a 10 day hopper pass with the water park fun and More option. The price is within a few cents of the special price offered by Undercover Tourist with the Mousesavers discount. The only bad thing is that you have to go to the AAA travel office to buy the ticket. They do not mail them. There is one very good thing about the ticket through AAA. When you pick up the ticket, you are given the AAA Diamond parking pass for all tickets more than 3 days. This parking pass gets you very near the front of parking lots. I was told it is as close as you can park without a handicap parking permit. I will pick this up soon.
Beware that the AAA room discounts may be only for certain dates. if I remember correctly our April/Easter trip last year didn't land on the dates in fine print listed in the AAA brochure, and we did not get a room discount, but you still get the vouchers for extras on a Magic Your Way package. I think some of the bonuses were a AAA member special parade viewing area and a story time with a princess character.
