Disney Club Discontinued

I know that we have known about this for quite sometime. But now that it is getting closer I realize how much I am going to miss this deal. December 2003 is approaching too quickly.

While AP's are most always a better deal when booking a room. I have never been able to beat the deals they offer for car rental codes and coupons and discounts at the parks for meals and shopping in DTD.

The new Visa deal they offered is less than a deal. I have certainly racked up some Disney dollars on this thing, but nothing compared to what I have saved with the club.

We were in Denver and found that I had a coupon for $20 worth of credit at ESPN for only $10. They no longer offer any discount with my DVC card for shopping in DTD. I have saved SO much with my DClub card there. The entire family purchased watches one year, mainly due to the deal we received using the discount allowed with the card.

Whom do I write to? Whom do I vent to? I want my special club back just for the Disney freaks that live far away from the "home planet" in Florida! I want my discount in DTD so I can continue to dilude myself into thinking that Disney doesn't end up with all my money anyway!

Is anyone going to miss this card as much as I am? I don't want another credit card . . . I want a club!! Is anyone bothered by this or have I went over the edge completely!

Comments?

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

You have not gone over the edge!

I will miss it too. With the DC you could get discounts on resorts pretty much whenever you traveled. The AP discounts although better, not always came out when you were planning on going.

Does the AP let you have a discount at any Disney Store?

I'm going to miss it too!

The discount was great, especially since it was good at the Disney Stores all over, not just at WDW!

The best part was the National Car deal - I've never yet been able to get a better deal than using the old Disney Club code, from any company. We'll be using it for the last time in November.

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

I'm sad about the club being discontinued as well. My family has been in the club (whether it be the old Magic Kingdom club or the Disney Club) for decades. We've saved quite a bit at the Disney Store alone with the DC card. I'm sorry to see it go.

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

AP's offer some discount on dining at speciic places. But no discount at DTD.

I booked a last minute trip for late October, simply because airfare was sooo cheap, the AP room rate was great and with my DC we booked thru National with the old code and a $20 coupon. We ended up with a full size vehicle for 8 days at a grand total of $160. This trip never would have happened if it weren't for the discounts.

Disney are you listening? I'll pay more per year to be a member. I want my club back . . .

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

Ummmmmm.....I'm pretty sure there is a 10% discount for AP holders at World of Disney in DTD. At least there was last month! I am also really going to miss the DC. I may have an AP now but I won't every year and now Disney is going to miss out on some purchases I might have made at my local DS thanks to the old discount.

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

Apparently Disney doesn't care about loyalty to their company. First the Disney Club goes by the wayside and then they take almost everything out of the remaining Disney stores. There is virtually no adult clothing at our local DS and very few things other than kids' clothes. The Disney store used to carry all kinds of collectibles, jewelry, books, games, toys, clothing and sleepwear for both kids and adults as well as animation cels etc. The Disney stores were perfect for carrying the feeling of Disney magic over until our next trip to Florida or California. Why can't Disney see that?! I don't go there anymore because they have nothing to offer. However if they actually stocked some of the fun things such as those things mentioned above, I would probably shop there on a regular basis. With limited perks for AP holders, it seems as if Disney is trying to alienate all of its best customers. If you offer people deals so that they keep coming back, wouldn't you be dollars ahead in the long run? Just something to ponder....

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

Absolutely! The one remaining DS that I can shop at has no clothing for my eight year old. Everything is XS, S, Med. The larges all seem to have been shipped elsewhere.

I am always looking for birthday gifts to stock up on when I visit the store. But it seems lately that they are more interested in trying to get me to spend a speciifc amount of money (which would be fine if I found something I wanted to buy) so that I can purchase their bounus item or a two-fer.

Just give me what I am looking for . . . and I'll buy it.

And, Belle your right, I didn't realize that I received a 10% disc with my AP as it is not valid at my Disney store, just in DTD where I have always used my DC. But your right, this year it made sense for our family it have one as we will be making three trips in one year and will get our moneys worth out of it. But we are taking a year or two off from Disney due to the disc of available discounts that allow us to plan ahead (we have kids in school and must plan around them).

We are thinking of taking in Wash DC for an educational experience next fall. Maybe by then all the marketing gurus at Disney will realize that we will come . . . just give me a deal (or at least make me think I'm getting one)!

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

Last March I used my AP @ World of Disney for a 10% discount. I really like discounts even if they're not huge(I'll take anything ) I sometimes wonder if Disney understanding how loyal their customers are? Its nice when they throw us a bone every now and then

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

HI
I AGREE , WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!!

now that I got that off my chest,
I will really miss my card to and as some of you said, with no adult clothing at the store and no DC Card, I won't be going to the store near as much.

Yes i use the Visa card, but that is almost a joke compared to the club card.

Doesn't Disney know we know a good deal when we see it or a bad one for that matter. there is no comparing the club to the card.

I think this will hurt Disney sales and I hope they realize it and bring the club back.

I to would write if I knew where.

wish we could foward this posting to the Disney CEO's and the like.

Let's flood them with mail. They need to hear the consumer, those of us who keeps their job going.

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

I never got a chance to join the club, but went ahead and got the Rewards Card. I skipped WDW last year thinking there would be a good deal on the card this year. I have yet to see a good deal come through on this card yet. It seems like it would take years for it to make it worthwhile to get a Reward card, and in the meantime I can get real cash back from Discover. Other then seeing mickey when I open my wallet, I really don't use the card much because I get 'more' back on Shell and Discover. I want a deal!!

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

I received "MY FAREWELL LETTER" from the DK today in the mail. I can't believe how bummed I am about this.

I agress with you . . I will keep my DVisa active to receive their info, but there are many better deals out there on CC for rewards and even cash back programs.

I will use it this trip down (we leave tomorrow for the airport!) and I'll see if anything special happens when we're down there . . but I have a feeling we'll put it in the drawer and go back to using our free miles card (at least then we end up with some free airfare)!

Re: Disney Club Discontinued

I agree with everyone,I'll miss the DC card.
We have a DVC membership and have had APs for years, but now there won't be any way to get the little discount on those passes.
Lately there seems to be more value buying the packages.
Wonder what Disney is trying to tell us?
