bus problems?

Hi, My family and I are traveling to WDW in August with a 6 year old and a 2 year old. Are the buses from SS very slow and do they make frequent stops? I am seriously thinking about renting a car, if it would get us to the parks faster and with less hassle. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Re: bus problems?

SS i am thinking is Saratoga Springs, and while you wouldn't share a bus with another resort i believe there are multiple stops within that resort which could take time. If you don't mind taking the bus your waits probably wouldn't be too bad but if your comfortable driving and can afford the added expense of the car we find driving to take less time and easier for us. Its a personal preference.

Re: bus problems?

We just stayed at SSR in March and had no complaints about bus service. There is a dedicated bus for the resort which makes a total of four internal stops. We had a car and used it often, but not to any of the parks. Keep in mind that if you drive to the MK, you have to park, then take the tram to the TTC, then take the ferry or the monorail to the park. Taking the bus is alot easier, as you are dropped off right there. Also, after a long day at the parks, it is sometimes easier to just hop on the bus and "leave the driving to Disney". Re: bus problems?

Renting a car will likely save you time traveling to all theme parks (except the MK as Sue detailed) from just about any Disney resort. There are few exceptions to that rule. MGM is about 20 minutes away from the BoardWalk on foot, and most days I could drive there quicker from Saratoga Springs.

That said, I believe SSR has some of the better bus service on site. AFAIK there are 3 stops within SSR--which is a good thing because it means you don't have to walk far from your guest room--and they are all in a loop. It maybe takes 5 minutes to hit them all. Busses aren't shared with other resorts which is frequently the case elsewhere.

You'll still have good experiences and bad as far as wait times go, but that's the case everywhere.

Unless it's cost-prohibitive, we always try to rent a car no matter which resort we stay at. The time savings adds-up over an entire trip.

Re: bus problems?

I found the bus service at SSR to be very good when I was there in early December. It makes 3 stops in the resort and then heads to it's destination. The early morning busses were typically crowded, but with room to stand; otherwise, they were empty.

Re: bus problems?

I like the buses, since it's an 18 hour drive for me to get to Disney it's nice to let someone else drive.

Re: bus problems?

We just just got back from WDW 6/8/06. Since SS is our home resort, we thought we would stop there on the way to DTD. The bus wait was 45 min to get to DTD which is right next door.
