| DH and I just got back from our first week in Big Bear, CA as timeshare owners. We bought re-sale, and I've been reading these boards for months wanting to get into AKLV. We stayed at AKV last October for our 15th anniversary and loved it (DD and DS, especially). DH isn't yet sold on the idea of a WDW vacation every 2-3 years, tho we cruised in October also on the Magic and the family loved that even more than AKL. I already know that our points shouldn't be used for DCL, but they could be if we had enough points. I think airfare isn't a big issue due to credit card travel points. I'm looking for a 60-75 point contract for AKLV so we can travel with friends in Jan 2010 with a side trip to Kennedy Space Center. I love that there are 2 bathrooms in the 1 bedroom at AKLV. I've been looking at all the photos of OKW and love the look and size, but we've never been there (only 1 bathroom in the 1 bedroom, too). AKLV is becoming more available by re-sale, but I'd have to jump on it. So here are my questions... 1. Is there a way to pre-qualify for financing on a small contract before the potential re-sale comes up? 2. How risky would it be to buy the smallest contract possible as soon as possible to become a DVC member, then buy a second contract through DVC direct for exactly what I want... then sell the small contract via re-sale market? ![]() 3. Am I right that in order to close escrow at the beginning of my 11 month window --- if we do buy--- that I'd probably have to buy no later than December '08 if by re-sale? The contract can't be "stripped" because I'll need 150-160 points to do the 2010 trip the way I want (banking/borrowing included). This number of points would easily accomodate my family for years to come. Any "left over" points I would gladly spend at GCV. It's less than an hour away, and could make for a really pleasant short getaway. Any comments or suggestions? Am I missing anything? Thanks in advance. The people on these boards ROCK! Great info, and I apologize for rambling a bit. Thank you. |

| 1) When I first contacted TTS, they asked if I needed financing and I said no since at the time I was going to go thru my credit union - so I'd say yes they will let pre-qualify for the loan 2) I'd say that is very risky, perhaps you could just add on the points you need to your minimum contract to get what you want? Once you buy in you can purchase any amount of points, 25 minimum cash, 50 minimum financing~ 3) I'd back that up to Nov, just to give you breathing room. I raced thru the resale process in something like 5 weeks. 2 to 3 months is a more realistic process time, particularly if the sellers are dragging their feet and you're in the holiday season where everybody is busy w/ other stuff Another possible option- if your CA timeshare is w/ Interval International - you could try to trade in, maybe? Good Luck! Michelle
