Talking Adding on question

Hello all,
I need your advice. I am almost done paying off my DVC loan for our AKL points. I was able to pay off the 10 year loan in 2 years! Yay me!

We are now thinking about purchasing some add-on points.

However, we would like to purchase points at Beach Club (preferably) or Boardwalk (our second choice). We'd like to purchase 50 or 60 points only. (We're thinking we'd use them every third year to spend Christmas at Disney).

Do we have to purchase through resale for something like this or could we purchase directly through Disney? Does anyone have any advice about the pros and cons of purchasing resale?

Thanks in advance!

I think it mainly depends on how comfortable you are purchasing through resale. I've never done this, but I have heard of people letting their rep know that they would like to add on at resorts that are already sold out. The rep then keeps his/hers ears and eyes open to look for those points. Depending on the popularity of the resort, it could take a little time. As HHI owners, we have actually received a DVC email before asking if we were interested in buying additional points.

It actually sounds as if it might be a bit easier to go through resale.

Good luck!

Jill

As Jill says, you can ask your rep to keep their ears open for something for you. We went on the list for this for the Beach Club Villas a couple of years ago. After four or five months nothing had come through, so we ended up adding on at Saratoga Springs. What you do have to remember though is that you will pay the current full price for your points with no incentives off, which makes adding on that way a pretty pricey way to do it.

I'd love to hear people's views on adding on such a small amount through resale, as one day I'd love to add another 50 or 60 Beach Club Villas points as well.

I'd be interested to hear people's experiences with resale vs. adding on through Disney as well. One thing is the Use Year issue. As far as I know, your new points will have the same use year as your current contract if you add on through Disney but not so if you go through resale.

If you're interested in a small contract through resale at a popular resort, subscribe to email notifications and maybe even contact the reseller so you get notified immediately.
