Question Newbie ? : Rent from DVC points website/broker?

Hi! Amy here-
I am brand new to everything that is WDW, and I am planning our family's first trip in Dec. 09. I heard about DVC points, and love how much money I could save by renting them.

I saw on another message board someone offering to broker the reservation between owner of the points and the renter. They have a very comprehensive web-site, but being so new, I do not know how legit they are.

Please give me your feedback: Am I (a newbie) better off renting points directly from an owner, OR going through a third party, who handles all the arrangements for me?

Thank you so much for your help on this!

Hi Amy, welcome to the boards! I can't help you with this question but have wondered the same thing about brokers. I'm sure someone here will know more...

there are 2 at least that are highly recommended.

that say when I rented it was only from an owner.

you need to be aware that Dec, 09 for DVC resorts is basically gone. So you need to find someone with the week you want, and who is willing to rent to you.

then compare it to what Disney would cost you.

Dec is very, very popular with DVC members so getting anything now is very iffy.

believe I tried for me for Dec 1 - 15 and they only had a couple of days in AKV and BCV (not even 2 days together)

Yup--unfortunately not much chance of getting a December reservation renting points at this late date. DVC members can book up to 11 months in advance of arrival and many do exactly that for December dates. And whatever was left has dwindled considerably over the subsequent 5 months.

As for the rental broker, my guess is that you will get a more professional experience by going that route. You would be dealing with someone who is well versed in the rental process, prompt in responding to inquiries, and has a tried-and-true system in place.

If you try to find a rental independently, you MAY have a similar experience. Or you could end up with someone who is disorganized, slow to respond and frustrating to work with.

Thanks so much!

I really appreciate the feedback. There is so much to learn! Disney is WONDERFUL!!, yet so many details to grasp. It gets overwhelming!

Sabine: Good to know I'm not the only one wondering!

Pat: Thank you so much for your information; I wasn't sure how it all worked. I'll probably just book something rack-rate this time (or go off-site), then try DVC next time. Could you please private message me the two good brokers you know about? I only know of one, and I don't know how reputable they are.

tjkraz: Thank you for writing; I am learning so much on this board and everyone has been so nice!

Have a great day everyone and thanks again!
-Amy

We are renting thru an owner for Oct. Turns out to be cheaper than staying @ a value resort for the same time . We have had awesome and quick responses both in mail and emails. I just posted what I was looking for on The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com - Powered by vBulletin and a few responded back--- took the best deal, but they all seemed nice... I agree, having owned DVC before, Dec. is VERY hard to get.... but try renting another time! Good Luck!
