I am thinking of trying to buy DVC points for our next vacation. Any suggestions on how to go about this? I've been told the villas are wonderful

First of all, welcome to the Boards!

Are you thinking of renting points from a member to use for a stay? It's a one time transaction (whereas purchasing DVC gives you points to use every year! ) We don't do rentals here, but there are plenty of sites that do!

If you are thinking of just renting pts make sure to rent from someone who is reputable and not just the lowest $$. Sometimes the lowest $$ can be problematic. Just take the advice in the link that rescuesk posted. And welcome to the boards
