Question New member and first question

Just became a DVC member on the last day of $112/pt on Disney Wonder. So it was a bit of an impulse purchase, but I did some open house tours before, so I already knew a bit how it works and I had considered purchasing before. Unfortunately, since I live in Switzerland, I can only buy while in Florida (or on the cruise), as Disney cannot sell to me in Switzerland.

Today, I dug out the DVC brochure I got in 2001 (a nicely bound hardcover book) and compared points, for the DVC resorts, they indeed haven't changed. (of course, the price per point has )

Sorry for the long introduction, here is my question now:

How do other DVC members split up the "bill" when they bring friends along for a vacation?

to the boards! So far I've only stayed with other DVC members and we haven't "split" the bill. Sometimes it's been a gift - other times I've paid for some meals or special events for the person I'm staying with. I'm sure other people have more experience with this than I do. I also know that on the rental market points go for $10-13 per point - so you could use that as a basis for what the trip would have cost and charge a percentage of that.

Welcome Home, Marc, and welcome to the the boards!

We have never charged a guest for points, since we use the same amount of points anyway. We have had friends stay with us in a one bedroom, and that would have been our usual accomodation anyway, so it was no more expense for us. Usually our friends buy us a meal or two and we call it even!

on our last trip we never split the bill. But things like purchasing a case of water, my parents paid of for a plane ticket, things like that to equal what they would pay if they went on their own.

We are taking friends with us on this trip so they can experience DVC and we didn't ask for anything. They did offer to pay for my family's MNSSHP tickets and wouldn't take no for an answer. I would never have charged them.

When we took friends this past summer, we did it exactly the same way. We got lots of thank you's, a few meals, and a great Disney cookbook to add to my collection. I didn't expect anything, but it was a nice gesture.

Welcome to the boards Marc!

Whereabouts in Switzerland are you? We're planning a road trip down to Switzerland in late March 2010.

When we've had friends stay with us before, they ended up paying for some of our meals to thank us, which worked really well.

Welcome to the Boards!!

This is a good question as DW and I just bought into DVC in Nov 08. I would think that haveing your guests treat you to a few dinners would be compinsation enough. A nice gift would not hurt either
