DVC On Line Reservations

On DVCNews.com there is an article that says the President of DVC is working to make on-line reservations a reality for DVC members. I think it would be great if it worked like the regular Disney reservations on-line. I always knew what I wanted and liked making the reservations myself. Hope it happens in the near future.

That would be great. It's wonderful, as an international member, to have the free calls to Member Services, but an online service would be superb as well.

There is a test program that will be starting in Texas soon (can't recall the city). DVC'ers that live near there are being contacted to see if they wish to participate.

That would be great news, as the current online reservation system is just about useless.

It will be interesting to see how this is implemented. I think points reservations are much more complicated than a cash booking. With cash, you search for a room, enter credit card info and the transaction is complete.

With DVC things appear to be a lot more complicated.

Many owners have multiple contracts with different 11-month booking priorities and some even with different Use Years.

You could have banked points, current year and borrowed all in a single transaction. Could even have transferred points acquired from another member.

Points could be classified as Reservation Points or placed in a Holding Account under certain circumstances.

There are many different room classes at each resort. AKV alone has 6: Jambo Value, Jambo Standard, Jambo Savanna, Jambo Concierge, Kidani Standard, Kidani Savanna

Will members be able to enter room requests at the time of the booking? The On-line check-in system allows for some request entry but only from a very small static list of options.

Will they give options to change or cancel reservations after they have been made?

And then there's the Waitlist...

Everything will have to mesh in realtime so that the telephone agents are accessing the same inventory as folks booking on-line. Hopefully there will be protections to "hold" a room for 2-3 minutes while someone completes the booking (much like Ticketmaster holding a group of seats while you enter your name and CC info.)

It will also be interesting to see when rooms come available for booking on a daily basis. Will members be able to start booking at 12:01am 11/7 months out? Will it be in the middle of the night like we have seen with ADRs under the new Internet system? Will it be at 9am (ET) the next morning so that people placing phone calls will have equal access?

All things considered it's a very complicated process and people who are not careful could really screw up their accounts. ("I wanted to book it with my banked SSR points but I clicked the wrong button and accidentally borrowed points from my BLT contract!!!")

I'm curious to see:
a) If they give members full access to all of the tasks MS agents can perform, or if we just get limited access (i.e. you still have to call to make waitlist requests.)
b) How they handle the inevitable wave of "user error" issues where the member didn't follow instructions carefully or simply didn't understand what he/she was doing.
