| need help convincing Posted this on another topic but I'll ask again. We are a family of 7 and love WDW! I'm still trying to convince my husband in DVC. I've tried to tell him DVC is not all about visiting WDW you can see other places too! He's not into paying that much for it. Any suggestions on helping convince him that in the long run its worth it?

| One big way to convince him is to add up the cost of your hotel stays the past few years. I bet it comes close to the cost of the initial investment of the pts you will need for DVC. Then you can tell him that with DVC you get to go for the next 50 years

| This is what I stated to my husband family of (5) 3 girls and me. When we travel we need the extra space and bathrooms. I figured the cost of moderates, and values. Over time this is much cheaper, plus all the extra's. The key is my success was doing math on how much it would cost me and adding inflation over 10 years on hotels and cruises. Then the cost of DVC and explained that was for 50 years. I won, now he thinks DVC was his idea. Our next trip with room and cruise would have cost us 10,125.00 witout DVC, and that isn't even adding park tickets! The trip before my parent came along it would have cost over 5,000 for what we have a SSR. One more trip we will be broke even. Plus I say look where we can go when the kids are out of the HOUSE!! I can't wait to travel over seas!

| I just calculated the cost for room only for my stay at BLT next August. I just bought into BLT in September and booked 8 nights at a 2 bedroom villa. If I was paying out of pocket it would be costing me $6,975! I calculate that in three years of vacations like that my DVC is paid for. Yet I have a contract until 2057 which can be handed down. Seems like a good deal to me. |

| If he's like me, I agree that hitting him with some solid numbers is a good place to start. With a family that large you'll need a Two Bedroom villa, and those prices can add-up quick. I'd take the approach of starting with a 160-point minimum contract and not necessarily making trips to Disney every year. Depending on when you want to travel and how long you typically stay, that may only be enough points to visit every-other-year or 2 out of every 3 years. Then you can do something else on the years you don't go to Disney. (While secretly you may be scheming to add more points down the road. Don't forget to mention the Annual Pass discount. That $100 savings per pass would really add up for your family. Using my example of 2 trips every 3 years, you could really make APs work for you. Consider a vacation plan like this: 2010: July 2011: June (Both trips fall under the same set of APs) 2012: no trip 2013: July 2014: June (Both trips fall under the same set of APs.) So you're only buying park passes for the family once every 3 years (2010, 2013, etc.) Make sure that he knows you can use the points at Walt Disney World, Disneyland as well as Hilton Head Island, Vero Beach and soon Hawaii. If you haven't done so already, show him the promotional DVD. It talks about a lot of other destinations you can trade into (you don't have to tell him that you have no intention of taking advantage of those trades. If you've never toured the villa model rooms, try to do that. Showing him a 1200 sq ft Two Bedroom Villa may go a long way toward convincing him DVC is a good alternative. Particularly if you're used to staying in a the All Stars. DVC has a sales center in Chicago with a full-blown 2B model room you can tour. Since you're in Indy, you could try and find an excuse to take a day trip up there to visit. Good luck! |

| I agree with costing it out and showing how much it would save in the long run. Sure, it's a big investment up front, but goodness, it does pay for itself many times over during the following years. It's the best investment we ever made. ![]()

| you also need to compare like to like - some people compare value resort to DVC - and that is not fair - to either group. dvc has more than value resort. even pop which I do love. plus some were comparing a value resort room to a 1-bedroom villa - sorry that does not work either. If you must compare a non-Dvc to a DVC at least compare it to a studio. I wasn't going to get an annual pass next year - but now might. Might be moving - 45 minutes from WDW. So definitely the discount on AP will be great!

| I agree with everyone else cost it the way to go, but you may want to tell him all the other vacation options available (other then WDW)...
I haven't been to WDW since Dec 2006 but we use and love our DVC points |

| small but added incentives You also get discounts at some of the restaurants and shops by showing your dvc member card. 10% or so but it still saves. As well as the dining plan. Compared to other time shares in the area that are not Disney getting the transportation, dining plan for around 100$ a day for a family of 4 and the other small perks. Those small perks add up to more $ saved. Think of food, transportation, and souvenirs if you stayed off property. Yes the original investment and the dues do add up but over the course of 50 years it will more than pay for itself. I have heard 6 years it pays for itself. I would think it might take a few more than that considering what you pay for dues. I think around 10 years and you are truly reaping the rewards of it. What better gift to give your kids than the gift of a vacation. |

| Thanks for all the replies. Hubby is just worried about being denied financing. (due to the amount of debt we have, even though we are not struggling to pay)

| I think it's the best thing ever!!!! We have a story behind our DVC ownership.. My parents brought my son to WDW for his first two trips.. He was 4 and 5 years old. Shortly after the second trip in 2005 my mom found out she had cancer. She decided purchasing DVC for her only grandson was the best way she could help him remember her (like he would ever forget..He absolutely adored his Meme). He thinks of her each time we visit Florida. He brings along a picture of her each time and tell me "Meme is still here with us". I think it was a wonderful thing she did for my son. We call it a 'family vacation ownership' but she was absolute that it belonged to her grandson. It's a nice story and shows how generous and kind my mother was..I miss her a great deal, but I'll always remember the wonderful thing she did for my son.

| With a family that large, you are going to need a 2 bedroom. If finances are maxed on being able to obtain credit, I would consider staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek in 2 bedrooms on cash. It's by Disney's Carribean Beach resort so it's within the Disney arches. It also has shuttles to the parks and free mini golf and pools with lazy rivers and slides and free innertubes. You can usually rent a 2 bedroom there from an owner for $700 or less for the whole week. Maybe splurge at the end of the trip with a few days onsite at Disney. Bonnet Creek Resort We've also actually thought about buying some Wyndham points resale since you can buy a pretty large points package for less than $1,000 in most cases. Wyndham has a lot of resorts on the east coast. I'd never use my DVC points to trade out to other places (unless I could get Hilton or the Manhattan Club) since the upfront costs and maintenance fees are so high using DVC to trade. to OP - disney will not turn you down if at all possible. the interest rate might be a little higher and they may require more of a downpayment
