I am so sorry to hear this - I just can't believe there are people who do this sort of thing to others. Naive, I know. I am glad to hear that you have got it sorted out and have found another wonderful DVC owner.

That's EXACTLY why I haven't rented points for a trip. We love to stay DVC but the thought of planning a trip and having the rug pulled out scares the bejesus out of me. Glad it worked out in the end!
I really hope this doesn't scare anyone away from renting points, but serves as a lesson to be extra careful. I followed all the suggestions for researching the owner EXCEPT the one I find key- don't rent from someone with a low post count.
My new point rental is from a much more seasoned owner.
There are some good places that rent out points, I actually rented out some of my points that were booked & we had to cancel our trip, didn't want to loose them so we rented them out. The place we used handled everything & both renters & us were pleased with the transaction..
Yow would never have a worry this way & I didn't have to do the work !
Awe, this is terrible; however, I'm so glad you will hopefully be able to recoup and not lose what you have spent had you sent cash. But hey, a 1-bedroom? Not too shabby! Glad your trip is still on...and not just because your (shhh) leading our group! LOL
