I am really glad that we were able to add some points to our home BCV, but I was not able to book for the first weekend in December . My sister has never been to WDW, crazy I know, so I thought it would be fun to go when the Christmas decorations are up, but it is not to be. There was no availability anywhere for that weekend. We will just have to go another time. Maybe the beginning of May would work.
Thats crazy, not one room? I had heard another DVC member say once that they used their RCI exchange to get what they wanted at a DVC villa when member services said there was not a room available. Never tried it myself. I sort of disappointed we were unable to get what we wanted for this Nov. But then again we booked less than 6 months out. Plus, we are going partly thanksgiving week. Don't give up yet.

Not surprising. The early-December points have been set too low for a decade now. If DVC would make the logical move and increase the costs for December stays (while decreasing other dates), it would help address this situation.

That's certainly possible. When a DVC owner trades-out, comparable accommodations at their DVC Home are deposited with RCI.
In a sense the DVC owner IS actually "using" the room--however they chose to trade away their rights to the DVC accommodation in exchange for some other destination.
I'd suggest OP go on the waitlist. People cancel all the time. Saratoga Springs and Old Key West offer the greatest chance for success.
I know we tried to get in first few weeks of December but had no luck. We were lucky we were flexible on dates so are oing on 1st jan. good luck with what you decide.
