We really want to save money on food this trip, but we only have a studio not a kitchen like many DVCers have....ideas for in room food just to see if you guys can help expand what we have considered?
I just do breakfast in the room. I pack oatmeal packets and a plastic bowl and microwave that every morning. Sometimes I buy English Muffins at the resort store and toast them in the toaster. Cup-o-soup or instant noodle soup would be easy to pack for a light meal. I also like having the fridge and microwave for leftovers from meals. I often can't finish a full meal and will take the leftovers back to the room for a meal the next day.
We always bring cereal & bagels, Purchase milk & juice at the resort. You can get stuff to make sandwiches & even frozen microwave food. (It will keep fine in the fridge)
Now I can't remember if you are driving, but if so and you have a cooler, this is what goes in when my sister is on the trip and she drives: Salami, grapes, chocolate milk for the kid, half and half, flavored cream, cream cheese, you could think about american cheese, string cheese, and yogurt.
Non cooler items: bagels, cereal bars, coffee***, crackers, pop tarts, instant oatmeal, single serve applesauce. Umm... alcohol.
If you care for it and you want to do some meals: single serve soups, easy mac can be done in microwave and serve with sandwich.
Hope this gives you some ideas
Cool great ideas, some Id thought of and some I hadn't. We have like 3 dinner ressies, 1 breakfast (Ohana a must do) and a late lunch at CP. So I think Im on the right track.....
we bring an electric frying pan for eggs bacon pancakes sauage or grilled cheese burgers ect

I like to make BLT's with precooked bacon. You can also buy ready to heat up BBQ & taco meats. I always make tuna salad (mayo, tuna, celery & relish) and chicken salad wraps. We have purchased rotissier (can't spell) chickens from the deli with sides and used the leftovers for the chicken salad.
If you can find it the Pasta Boat works great. It cooks pasta in the microwave. (I haven't cooked spaghetti on the stove since I got it) Although I have found that the longer skinnier noodles such as spaghetti are the easiest to do. The handles double as measuring devices for spaghetti & both sides of the container are marked with water levels for 2, 4, 6 & 8 servings. If you had the Pasta Boat, a box of spaghetti & a jar or two of sauce (depending on how saucy you like your spaghetti) you could have spaghetti.
You can bring popcorn for popping. There are numerous side dishes that can be microwaved such as Uncle Ben's rice dish. Practice at home with scrambled eggs, some people do that. Bring everything you can as it is a lot of work to get off site or you pay more for delivery and on site. I took a trip once to the Midwest and carried a few packets of favorite herbs. I am strange.

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".

I make egg sandwiches a lot for my boys. I spray Pam into a coffee mug, then crack an egg into the mug. Scramble it with a fork, pop it in the microwave for 1 minute, and you have an egg patty ready to put on a bagel or english muffin. This would be easy to do at Disney, too. If you don't have Pam spray, let the mug soak while you're at the park and it will be easier to clean when you get back.

Ok that's awesome - will have to write that down for next time as there's only couple days left....
Thanks to everyone- we saved a ton on food this trip and have learned what else we need to do to save further. Our biggest problem first few days was orange juice. $3.59 each at POP!!!
I think this trip also ends the split stays for us - for a lot of reasons that ill post about in diff thread but 1 is its easier to save money on food on 1 room not 2...
If you have a car then shopping is pretty easy. For me it is 3 buses and 3 hours each way to go to Whole Foods up on Sand Lake which is about 15 by car. DTD takes me from home about 15 minutes or 2 buses and 90 minutes. Lots of stores within 10 miles of WDW.
There are a ton of things in stores you could buy. You can even cook ground beef in a microwave. I love Smith hams for nuking. It takes about 5 minutes depending on oven and serves 2 or 3 people. I buy at the store Baby Ray's pulled pork for dinner and sandwiches.
