Being that I've been kind out of my Disney bubble as of late, I just went and checked out the new DVC Members' website -- which I have to say I really don't like as it's way too generic, but I digress. . .

Under the "Perks & Discounts" and then "Special Offers" sections of the site, I found the following information regarding the complimentary D23 membership for DVC members:

An email later this spring will alert Disney Vacation Club Members to the launch of an online registration tool that'll allow Members to take advantage of this offer. . .

So looks like the membership is still on its way to becoming available to members; however, it won't be until sometime this spring!

It's interesting to note, though, that with this "special level" of membership (as it's being considered), we, as members, per the fine print on the DVC website (accessible via the above-mentioned areas of the site), will actually only be receiving the email newsletter and a membership number allowing access to the website/content for purchasing exclusive merchandise with select discounts. We will not, however, be given a membership card or certificate, the annual membership gift, access to any member-exclusive events, or a subscription to the quarterly printed magazine.

Honestly, I don't remember any "details" about the membership for DVC members being mentioned when the news was announced for the complimentary access; however, if anyone was looking for those perks like the ability to attend the yearly events, etc., it seems an actual paid subscription will still be necessary.

Yeah, this was definitely not what was presented to us on DCL in Oct! They definitely said we'd be getting the magazine! They said it would be (I think) the silver memberhisp (I might not be remembering this all correctly) And I know they mentioned we'd have access to the special events as well. They did not mention membership card or free membership annual gift....

The winter 2012 issue of Disney Files Magazine confirms previous reports that Disney Vacation Club members would soon receive complimentary D23 membership, but few additional details are revealed.

According to Disney Files, Disney Vacation Club members will be offered "an exclusive membership level" in D23 - The Official Disney Fan Club. This unique membership level will be free, and will grant access to "special discounts, events, merchandise and more."

D23 currently offers two membership levels to the public. The $30 Silver Membership provides a member ID card and certificate, email newsletter, one annual membership gift plus access to a year's worth of merchandise & special events (additional fee) and a slate of member discounts.

The $75 Gold Membership adds a quarterly print magazine and a variety of collectible gifts to the above perks.

Although Disney Files does state that DVC owners will receive a unique D23 membership card, It is unknown how the complimentary fan club membership will vary from the above.

DVC owners wishing to participate must register at DVCMember.com. Registration will begin sometime in January 2013.

Yea I'm definitely going to keep an eye out the closer we get to spring for the email that should be sent around -- as any information posted directly from Disney should be fairly accurate. However, if it turns out that we do get something closer to the Silver Membership; i.e. more than just the email newsletter and access to the website, I'll definitely be more excited than I am now about this pending "perk." *shrugs*

I was really hoping to get the magazine and annual gift. I admit I'm less excited now about the "perk", but I'll keep my hopes positive until more details are released.
