We were able to get a 1-bedroom in mid-June for 3 nights (the week before Carsland opened) so October is certainly possible. We did book right at 7 months.
We went last October and were able to get 3-nights in a studio at GC (we had to do 2 nights at the DLH), but we booked in late July. So only had 3-months out. We also booked for February right around the same time and were able to get 5-nights over a holiday weekend in a 1-bedroom.
We've really lucked out so far with booking there. We got two nights in late August in 2011 and then six nights over Christmas last year as well. Although there really aren't many villas, I've been pleasantly surprised at hoe easily we got in there both times.
I was watching it for August this year as that is where we want to go next and it did look very busy. We have decided if necessary we will just book the disney collection.
We are looking to go there late October and even though its not quite 7 months out yet we played with the dates in that window. We were not seeing very much available it was where they had 1st and 3rd night 2nd night not available. Even looked at option of studio or 2 bedroom and same thing. If October booking will be the same and we would have to pay out of pocket to stay at a Disneyland hotel, CA will be out for us. We will just go back to WDW and get a room at OKW or Saratoga if we can't get another one of our favorites. Hate to be the Debbie downer here but anytime we have looked into booking at GC we have not had very good luck at all. Hopefully it works in your favor good luck !!
Really fantastic! I've been checking the availability at VGC in October, and it seems spotty at best. So glad you got lucky!
We are leaving in 6 weeks for a family reunion of sorts, and we're also excited for our first stay at VGC!!
Have fun planning your trip. You are right, planning a trip to DL is a completely different animal than planning a trip to WDW. It's much more relaxed, actually...
