Researching DVC

Doing some research into DVC and I have a question. Has anyone bought through the re-sale or did you all buy through Disney directly? Any stories (good and bad) to tell that would help me?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Re: Researching DVC

We bought our points through resale. We wanted our home resort to be at the Wilderness Lodge and that was the only way to get it, since they have been sold out (through Disney) for years. I think the name of the place was "A Timshare Store" -- or something like that. Some other people here have also purchased through them. Most of the transactions were handled online, including making the initial offer. The agent's name was Jacki Apetz and she was very knowledgeable and efficient. We had absolutely no problems and the entire deal, from initial offer to closing was completed in about 1 1/2 mos. We just made our first trip home in September and are thrilled that we made the move to become DVC members.

Re: Researching DVC

We would have purchased through Disney if we needed to finance it. And if we were interested in Saratoga Springs, or impatient. Resale does take longer, but we were in no hurry. We also used Jaki at Atimeshare.com. It was very quick. We made an offer on Sept. 28th, it was sent to Disney on Oct. 1st they passed on buying it on Oct. 12th. We closed two weeks later and I was able to make a ressie two days after our closing! Check out all your options, then decide. We changed our minds three times before we actually signed.

We bought directly through DVC and had a good experience.
They Fed-ex'd everything and we finan ced ourselves with
a home Eq. loan. All we have to do now is get down to
BCV's in March and I'll let you know how it went. Can't
wait!.

Re: Researching DVC

I too have been looking into joining the DVC but I had not even considered resale. Does anyone know if these resale companies will deal with Canadians?

Re: Researching DVC

just keep in mind that when you do a re-sale....disney has the first right of refusal. Often times what may seem like a great deal can be optioned by disney....we financed for 5 years through disney for 300 points, it may be a bit more expensive, but it was quite smooth, and only 2 years to go!!
