Renting DVC Points I was at Mousesavers recently and she mentioned that you can rent points from DVC owners. Has anyone done that, or know someone who has...from either side? What are your thoughts? Thanks, Jennifer

Re: Renting DVC Points I am glad you asked this question - because I wondered about how it all works myself. I have read about renting points - but am so unsure where to even start. Any advice on how to do this - would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Renting DVC Points I've never done it, but I have seen some offered on eBay. Go under their "Travel" section...you have to weed through a lot of crap, but eBay is pretty strict on what they allow vendors to auction on their site. You can probably bid with confidence after corresponding with the DVC owner. It's just one way I've noticed, I'm sure others can provide different avenues. Good luck!

Re: Renting DVC Points Another board to check out is the DIS boards. They have a whole forum dedicated to renting DVC points. Basically it works like this: Say you want to stay at Old Key West for 5 nights, Sunday through Thursday, in a one bedroom villa, during Dream season. You would need 100 points to do that. Then you go shopping for those points. You and the seller enter into a sort of contract and he/she makes the reservation in your name. He/she then forwards the paperwork to you, and you are all set. There is a little bit of trust and faith involved, but I think most parties are honest. The cost is roughly $10/point, but the price usually drops as the seller gets closer to their use date. In other words, if you have 50 points left and you need to book by the end of February or else lose your points, you are much more willing to take $8/point then to lose the money. I have never personally sold my points, but I did look into it last year. I don't know all the info, but I will try to find out what I can! Sue

Re: Renting DVC Points We are renting points for our 4/26-29 stay at BWV. We found a member on the DIS board and he made our reservation. After confirmation was received we paid 50% through paypal, and will pay the balance 45 days before we leave. Since we are staying Monday to Thursday when point charges are the lowest, our total cost is $420 for a BW studio instead of the dollar cost of around $800 plus tax. Yea!!!!

Re: Renting DVC Points I've rented points two summers in a row and am now renting some for this May. I found people on the Dis Board and so far, its been a great way to stay in a fabulous resort at a fraction of the cost- Sheila

Re: Renting DVC Points We have been dvc members since 1994 and rented out points for the first time this fall. Posted on disboads dvc and it was all very easy. You do have to have some confidence in the party you are working with ..for us (and them) it worked out great. I have not heard of a bad experience about renting yet. Good luck if you do. Connears

Re: Renting DVC Points We rented on the DIS board this summer. It was great. Staying at BCV this summer convinced my DH to finally join the DVC after 11 years of proding. I've now rented points out too. Our resale at VWL came with lots of points. Both being the renter and renttee have worked out well for us.
