Re: DVC or Resale? I have bought with resale and through Disney, and both were seamless. The resale process does take a while to go through, up to two months, but for me it was worth the savings! Plus, if you are interested in buying at one of the sold out resorts, you pretty much have to go through resale. Just be sure to work with a reputable resale company. I used the Timeshare Store and they seem to have lots of experience with DVC resales so they really know the drill.

Re: DVC or Resale? We have only bought through DVC. Remember to find out how much time is left on a resale. If they purchased in 1994 for example, you would only have it for 29 years versus 50 at SSR.

Re: DVC or Resale? Twice through DVC so far. I just feel at tad more "at ease" going through them. They do pay closing costs also which decreases your immediate out-of-pocket expenses. I am not totally ruling out buying resale in the future though. I think it just depends on the situation and how comfortable you feel buying resale. Good Luck! Jill

Re: DVC or Resale? Thanks guys, I feel more at ease with dvc also but I could save @ 1,000 with resale. And the one I am looking at is at a sold out resort? I don't know I am still thinking. But thanks for all your help!

Re: DVC or Resale? We're in the process of buying through The Timeshare Store right now, and they are pros with everything. So far it has been an incredibly easy process, and we got a great deal! Also, can someone explain to me -- I thought all the resorts expired in 2040, except SSR which expires in 2054. Anyone know?

Re: DVC or Resale? One thing to consider in your price through resale is that you will have to pay closing costs. This can make a difference in the end price. As far as "sold out" resorts go, right now Disey is only selling SSR, however you can be put on a waiting list to purchase one of the other resorts through Disney. Disney buys back some of the resales, then sells them to people who prefer to buy through Disney. It's important to buy at the resort you like best. I own at BWV and the 11 month booking advantage is extremely helpful for getting a Boardwalk view! I also own at SSR, and I want to use those points to stay at BWV during the food and wine festival, but so far I'm on a waiting list.

Re: DVC or Resale? [ QUOTE ] My closing costs on 150 points at OKW were $450. [/ QUOTE ] THANKS! That's not too bad considering points are $95.00 now at SSR. Even with the $5.00 off (each point) special we were quoted by our DVC rep. early March.

Re: DVC or Resale? We bought both of our memberships via resale and it was painless (well, except for signing the check). Our VWL purchase took, if memory serves, about six weeks. We signed our contract to purchase at OKW a month ago, passed Disney ROFR on March 31, and are now awaiting the final documents from the closing company. Our closing costs for 230 points is $525, plus we are paying the dues on the 209 points banked from 2004.

Re: DVC or Resale? I purchased from A Timeshare Brocker - no problems at all. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from The Timeshare Store or DVC By Resale either. Closing costs for 150 points cost me $450. I also paid maintenance costs for the 2004 points (purchased in November 2004). Adding up the point cost, closing and maintenance, I figure I paid $81/point for VWL points and Disney was selling for $89. So I saved about 10% or $1200. You will need to pay cash or arrange your own financing. Not an issue for me, but is for some. Disney is faster as you need to wait for Disney's Right of First Refusal. Mine went quick - took about six weeks start to finish for me. Karen
