How do I convince my husband this is good?? We just returned today from Disney and we took the DVC tour and I love it. Now, how do I get my husband to get on board before the 72 hours runs out to get a reduced rate? He doesn't think it's worth it and I think that we'll have it for 49 years that we will get our moneys worth out of it. The only down side of it is that you have to go at least every 2-3 years and we usually go every 5 years. What is the best way to "sell" your unused points? Do people really buy them?? Thanks!

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? You can "rent" your points to other people. I believe there is a topic on this on the dis boards. You can do a search on the topic, there have been other discussions on this. I have had my DVC for 4 years and have already re-couped my investment. I kept track of the dollar value of my stays and reached the break even point by my fourth trip. My only problem is that DVC is addicting. Couple that with a AP and that's trouble! I took full advantage of all the perks and squeezed in as many trips as I could before DD started school. ![]() Good luck on your decision.

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? I think it's all a matter of money savings. I actually have a friend who has 600 points -- he rents 2/3 of them each year and it more than pays for his annual fees, and he recouped his investment in about 4 years. Now he actually MAKES money off the deal, and he goes to Disney 3 x a year.

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? We've been members for nearly three years now and we reckon that by the time we take our next trip at the end of this year (our third as DVC members) we'll have recouped the cost of the initial investment. If you look at the facilities you get at a DVC resort - and how much cash you'd pay to stay there, you'd be amazed. I believe when I checked in December that the rack rates for a one bedroom villa at the Beach Club Villas started at around $400 per night. Best of luck with convincing your husband - let us know how you get on. ![]()

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? We've had our DVC since Nov. 02 and after our trip in June, we'll have recouped our initial investment!!! It doesn't take long to do that. Tell your DH that there are other places to go besides Disney and maybe that'll help. That's what really sold my DH on it. Right now though, with our kids being little(10, 9, 2, 5mo)Disney is where we'll be going.

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? I can only second what everyone else has said. We've been members since 2003 and I'm pretty sure that we've already recouped our investment on our first purchase. I priced out our BCV week-long trip in September on the website and it was well over $3000. That was 1/4 of our initial investment right there. We've also used some of our points at Hilton Head. Since we live in SC it makes for a great and inexpensive beach trip! Good Luck! I can tell you that both DH and I feel that it's one of the best investments that we've ever made. We love to travel and we were going to be taking vacations one way or the other! ![]() Jill

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? Let me start by saying that we LOVE being DVC members and it was the best investment we ever made. However, if you are only going to go once every 5 years, DVC may not be the best investment for you. If you travel other places in between those 5 years and can do so on your points, you will probably make out OK. How long do you go for? Would you increase your travel time if you were a DVC member? We used to go every 5 years, and then started to go every other year. When we became DVC members, we travel twice a year, and this year, did a Disney cruise as well. You would probably have no problem renting out your points, but for the money, it seems like you may want to use it for your enjoyment, not just as an investment! There is a certain amount of work and time involved in renting out your points, you would be the one making the reservations, etc. What we love about DVC is the freedom to go when and for how long as we please! We jave stayed in studios and 1 BR's, in January, April, May, October and December. We have stayed at VWL, OKW, CSR, CR, BWV and BCV. We have taken a Disney cruise. NONE of this would have been even remotely affordable without DVC!!! ![]()

Re: How do I convince my husband this is good?? Again I'd have to echo what everyone else has said. We did our initial purchase we did what we figured would be enough to cover an trip to WDW every other year. We've done a cruise and a week's stay at 2 Bdrm BCV with our family and my DW parents, and will shortly be going back for a stay at SSR and a 3 night cruise all with the points. I know with the stay that is coming up, we'll be to the point where we've pretty much covered the cost of the purchase. Now that we've taken my in-laws they don't think they would ever stay in another location after that one stay. I'd also repeat what other have said that the points are addicting as mentioned earlier and we've added on at least once, and would definitely consider adding more points again. The flexibility of the system is really great for being able to do other trips than just WDW. I would have to say that if you plan on using it only every 5 years it may be a reach to say this is the best option for your family unless you would trade out the points for some of the other destinations or rent out the points.
