Dining plan - anyone else w/problem??

I am getting the dining plan when I go home on April 1. We are there for 6 nights, checking out April 7th. Here's the problem:
We are losing a full night of dining, since we are arriving at 6:30pm!!!! Consequently, we are 'losing' Friday the 7th, as we'll have no food left on the plan!!! And we don't leave until 6pm Friday night.

Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Dining plan - anyone else w/problem??

If you are staying for 6 nights, you will get 6 of each meal credit. It really doesn't matter when or how you use the credits. You could eat 6 counter service meals the first 3 days and save your 6 table service meals for the other days of your trip. In fact, some elite table service locations require the use of two meal credits.

I don't really see how you are "losing" anything.

Re: Dining plan - anyone else w/problem??

Michele,

I had trouble following why you thought you were losing some meals with the dining plan. DH and I went for 6 nights, arriving mid-morning on day 1 and leaving mid-evening on day 2. We had CS credits left over, even so I got food do eat on our trip home.

Credits are determined by the number of nights that you stay and are valid starting at check in through midnight the day of check-out. Like tjkraz said above, your "points" are available to you at any time in the trip, so you can still use them all up before you leave. It's pretty flexible.

Maybe you can do a TS breakfast your last day, and use the CS as a late lunch/early dinner. They'll even wrap up a sandwich and dessert for you, so you can take it on your trip home.

Hope I've been able to help.

Tanya & Tkjraz

That's what I thought as well, but the rep at DVC told me I will lose the food by Friday morning, as my 6th night was actually Thursday night. And I could have sworn that I read the points expire midnight the day you leave!

I thought they were like points that boiled down to this:

6 "days" of snacks, counter service and table service per person. I even asked if we wanted to, could we use a table service at lunch, then again the same day for dinner and she said no.

Hopefully, this is just a case of this rep being wrong. I thought like the two of you: we can use them how we want.

Should I call again and see what the next rep says?

Thanks for the help!!! And I thought I was going nuts!

Re: Dining plan - anyone else w/problem??

Your rep was wrong. The credits will be good from the day you check-in until midnight on the day you depart. The actual number of credits billed and received will be based upon the number of nights you are staying.

And you can most certainly use them in any order you wish--as evidenced by the fact that some restaurants require you to use two nights worth of credits.

You can use your credits for any meal you wish. If you want to use your sit-down for breakfast and your counter service for dinner--no problem.

I think the problem here is that the program is so new that DVC hasn't done a completely thorough job of training folks. If you really want peace of mind, I'd send an email through the DVC members-only website and wait for their response in writing. If you call again, all you'll have is two different verbal responses. I'm 100% sure that the info you're seeing here is correct, but if you want verification, get it in writing.

And if you happen to know the name of the person you spoke with the first time, you might want to call and ask for a supervisor to let him/her know. I don't go out of my way to get people in trouble, but it sounds like someone is in need of a little re-training before additional members are given the wrong info.

Tim

I agree......you get the plan for the number of nights you are staying at the resort and it expires midnight of the night you are leaving.......we used the dining plan a number of times before we became members. We really loved the plan and as soon as it was available to us again I signed up for our trip in May. rella

Re: Dining plan - anyone else w/problem??

Michele,

No wonder you were upset. I definitely believe that you were told the wrong information by the rep. If it would help ease your mind, it doesn't hurt to call and check with another rep, but you should have no problems using your points after you check out.

Re: Dining plan - anyone else w/problem??

Thanks everyone for all your help!!

I was just thinking last night that you all here on the boards usually know more than the DSY reps themselves!!

I read the boards all the time, thought I had the plan figured out and WHAM! Called the wrong rep!!! Good to know I DID figure it out!

Thanks, as usual, to everyone for your help. This will be the first time "home" AND using the dining plan.
