Hi! I am so excited to be a co-guide for Vacationing Your Way: Your Special Needs. My sign on name is Sandra Bostwick, but please call me Sandy. I was first introduced to PassPorter when I interviewed Debra Martin Koma for a magazine article on Special Needs and Disney. She invited me to participate in PassPorter’s Open Mouse for Walt Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line. Then I worked on the PassPorter’s Walt Disney World Guide. That was how I discovered the PassPorter Community and I’ve been hooked ever since!
I love watching people, places, and things grow and develop. I especially enjoy helping the process. I love animals, nature, gardening, travel, reading, and just about any kind of learning. Oh, yes, and anything Disney!
I have many jobs, but the common thread is always PEOPLE. I just think people are so much fun! I own an occupational therapy private practice in North Jersey, work as a consultant for a private school, and teach at a local college. I'm completing an online doctorate with Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA.. I’m also a music therapist and a music teacher. Each and every one of my students is a gift to me.
I’ve dabbled in hospitality and entertainment at the Jersey Shore, the Pine Barrens, Europe, and (my favorite) on The Mississippi Queen, an authentic steamboat! I dream of someday working as a learning disabilities or special needs consultant at Walt Disney World. You never know!
I enjoy volunteer work in the community. I am a NJ Certified Disaster Crisis Counselor and am a member of my local Medical Reserve Corps. Believe it or not, I believe that my obsessive study in the way Disney handles crowds and queues has helped me with the skills I need to manage people in a crisis.
I also enjoy freelance writing and public speaking. One day I’ll be able to add that I am a bestselling author, but not yet!
Walt has been an inspiration to me ever since I heard the story of Oswald. I love that, when Oswald was taken from him, Walt went on to create Mickey. Whenever I suffer a loss or disappointment, I know that, like Walt, I’ve got something even better inside me...just waiting!
I am so grateful for the wonderful people I’ve met on the PassPorter boards, and for the opportunity to be a guide.
