Illness Cluster Linked to Wild Africa Trek Tours in June
Orange County Florida health officials have documented dozens of cases of a gastro-intestinal illness among guests who took the Wild Africa Trek in June and July. The Wild Africa Trek is a Backstage Tour offered at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Health officials inspected the food preparation kitchen for this tour but no link to the illness was found. Disney has reinforced hand washing practices for guests, increased the number of hand sanitizers available, and begun "deep cleaning" several surfaces the guests come in contact with.
I was in Disney during the second week of June 2012 for my honeymoon and got the same "sickness" that they are reporting. I actually had to have a doctor come to my hotel room it was so bad. I played through the pain since it was my darn honeymon and I wasn't going to miss anything!
But now I'm sitting here reading about this. We did not take this trek, but I got sick about three days in. I could have gotten this from anywhere that those people who were carrying it were.
And I wash my hands and everything. I'm not the type of person to put my hands in my mouth. And so on, and so forth. The Doctor told me that it's very common at WDW for this to happen, but thought that my pain level was high for it. It took me WEEKS to get back to normal! And that was after I finally dragged my butt to the doctor and was put on a week of antibotics.
I wonder if I had what they are reporting. Hmmmm....
