The "Decade of Dreams" Theme: PassPorter's Big Band
When we were thinking about theming for our big 2009 hoopla, because of course we had to have a theme, we quickly latched onto the idea of a tour. Not a grand tour, but a concert tour! We wanted to have events from "coast-to-coast" throughout the year and a concert tour seemed like a perfect fit. The rock star image didn't seem right for us, however. But why not a '30s/'40s era big band? After all, the '30s/'40s were Walt's era and what we see depicted so well at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Adventurers Club at Walt Disney World), Sessions on the Disney Magic ship, and Hollywood Pictures Backlot at Disney's California Adventure.
The more we thought about it, the more it made sense. PassPorter is like a "big band" in its way -- you've got us (the bandleaders), but that's just a small part of the band. Our team members, Guides, authors, writers, editors, proofreader, contributors, and reviewers are like the different sections of the big band ensemble. And our readers are the swing dancers! We all work together in tempo to pull off PassPorter.
So, like the theme geeks we are, we actually sat down and figured out each of our roles in the big band of PassPorter. Everyone reading this should spot themselves here, even if the title or name is unusual:
Bandleaders -- Jennifer and Dave Marx
Rhythm Section -- Chad Larner, Nicole Larner, Sara Varney (the "heart" of the band)
Saxophone Section -- PassPorter Guides (the "mellow harmony")
Brass Section -- PassPorter article/photo/news/tip/story contributors (the "melody")
Composers -- PassPorter authors, editors, and proofreader
Arrangers - PassPorter's distributor (PGW), publicist (KSB), warehouse (PSSC), and webhost (AI)
Tour Managers - Beci Mahnken and Annette Owens at Mouse Fan Travel
Dancers -- PassPorter readers, families, and friends
Our big band concert tour lead to the idea of having a "backstage pass." Dave came up with the "10" anniversary logo, and I created a basic backstage pass graphic. Then, in a really fantastic group collaboration with our Guides and team members, we pulled it all together into the backstage logo you see in the upper left corner of this page, complete with '30s/'40s-era logotype for Decade of Dreams, the "dreamy" clouds, and the plane/ship.
We'd love to collaborate with YOU on how we'll play with our theme during the Decade of Dreams Tour! Perhaps song names for meet and event titles? Or even some meets at '30s/'40s era spots in the parks and on the ship? We'd love to hear your ideas -- you're an essential part of this celebration!

I think you are onto something with the song titles from the 30s and 40s.
On wikipedia, they already have a list of hit songs from each year which are probably familar to everyone (-- us boomers, anyway).
Another theme might be buildings from this era -- it might help with trademark issues. How many different meeting tracks and sessions did you have in mind?
I have never been to Mousefest or any _____Con, so I am not familiar with the terminology.
Would you like a list of hit songs from the 30s and 40s?
Oh, that's a GOOD name! I think our Pennsylvania "tour stop" is mostly just that we'll be at MagicMeets and we'll plan to do something celebratory or have something interesting at our table there. But, who knows -- maybe we can do something extra before or after MagicMeets itself! We'll have to see after the 2009 dates and locations for MagicMeets are announced.
On my way home from work yesterday I had the radio on our local oldies but goodies station and heard a song that I thought would be perfect for the Decade of Dreams Tour...
What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.
You can hear it by clicking on this LINK & if that one doesn't work try this LINK
Awwww.... you've bought a tear to my eye. THANK YOU, Debbie! I agree that is a "wonderful" song. I'm sure it would be easy to name one of our meets with "What a Wonderful World" -- maybe if we go to Chester & Hester's and ride Primeval Whirl, we can have "PassPorter's 'What a Wonderful Whirl' Meet" LOL! We could have a lot of fun with that!
Of course, a meet at 'Ohana could be called "Polynesian 6-5000."

Jennifer, I think if I were to ride the Primeval Whirl again I wouldn't be singing "What a Wonderful Whirl", I'd be more likely singing "What a Wonderful Hurl"... LOL (I don't do those types of rides too well) However, that would be a good name for that meet... Whirl not hurl .
Here's a site for 30's and 40's slang. might help you play around with some words and give you ideas, i know not what youre looking for but it couldnt hurt. The Electric Eclectic - slang
something else i thought was interesting being that we are going to the caribbean, i read steel drums originates from the 30's and 40's. you could also play with "jungle cruise" being that that ride is set in the 30's and 40's. The boats were named: Amazon Belle, Congo Queen, Ganges Gal, Hondo Hattie, Irrawaddy Women, Kissimee Kate, Magdalena Maiden, Mekong Maiden, Orionco Adventuress, Suwannee Lady, Ucayali Una, Yangtze Lotus, Zambezi Miss and the Nile Princess. got that off Mouse planet btw.
