Going to see
Bout coming to this, I have wanted to see Mary on broadway and that is a great price. Any one have any info how to get to NY via train from Philly suburbs?
We have taken a day bus but since this is a night I would have to come by train.

There's no shortage of Amtrak service between 30th St. Station in Philadelphia and Penn Station in New York. Just about every train connecting Boston, New York, and Washington DC runs through Philadelphia. There are too many variations to list here - just check the Amtrak web site. It's probably worth seeing how late train/bus service from downtown back to your neighborhood runs when you get back to Philadelphia - that's probably a bigger problem than finding a train leaving Penn Station at a convenient time.

DH and I are definitely interested! Who will arrange where to eat dinner and when and where to meet?
Jennifer and I will be working on that. We're happy to have input from everyone, and we already have an idea or two ourselves.

Also does anyone have hotel recommendations for something reasonably priced (I know in NYC, I'm asking a LOT) in the area? I usually stay with my friend Rita when I go down, but that won't be possible this trip.
Mouse Fan Travel is going to try to come up with a room-only deal, but I don't encourage folks to hold their breath on a great price. Because of Book Expo, there's already plenty of upward price pressure on Manhattan hotels. Just about every decent hotel in the Midtown/West Side area is booked for the convention.
As a former Jersey boy, I like the NJ solution (we normally stay on the Jersey side of the Hudson for Book Expo). Of course, that's easy for me to say, I spent around 25 years commuting by bus from NJ to Midtown - I've taken buses home as late as 4:00am on New Years Day (and that was after work, not after partying all night).
Of coruse, everyone has to stay within their own comfort zone. However, even a cab ride from Times Square to Secaucus isn't at all expensive split four ways or so. If enough folks stay at the same hotel, there are NJ-based jitney services that'll pick folks right up at the theater (I'm sure the hotel would be able to arrange it).

I have to agree there! There are plenty of options from comfy buses to trains to cabs. The best thing about the Jersey side is you get the NY view! I'd be up for staying in a hotel in Jersey.
I went to grad school in the city and often traveled alone at night back to Newark. I don't think I'd be up for that ever again, but in a group, I would have no worries AT ALL!
This sounds like a blast!!! I'll have to double check my work weekend but would be up for it! Maybe an over night trip just outside the city too? Though I'm not so skerd to stay in the city any more it's the price that skerse me!

Four adults to one 2 year old May trip to Disney... YUP that was about the right ratio!!! (and Thank Goodness one of the adults was a teenager!!)
Book Expo America is in NY, at the Javits Convention Center. It's a trade-only show, though - not open to the general public.

If you share a room, the price, of course, goes way down!
I just checked the original hotel I was thinking of, and there were a string of pretty bad reviews. It WAS only$145 a inght and it is minutes from the ferry, but a whole bunch of people wrote unpleasant things about it. hmmmmmmmm.
If I can convince my DH to come along, I will probably come on down for this. I am also looking into some hotels for the night unless I can find a train that will depart later in the evening.
Sounds like a good time. You can definitely count me in. It's only about a 50 minute train ride for me from southern CT in Fairfield County. I am also doing the DOD in WDW so I'll see a number of you for the second time in three weeks. I'm really looking forward to it.
Anyone have any ideas on a pre-dinner meet? I'm open to whatever anyone wants to do. Maybe, we should wait until Dave and Jennifer have the details on the restaurant we're likely to go to before Mary Poppins and pick somewhere in the vicinity of the restaurant. That would probably be a good idea.
