Smile How soon is too soon?

Want to book a wdw vacation for May 2009, I know that is ridiculously far off, but how soon could I/should I book it? Seems like the earlier you book, the better your chances at getting a great deal. Would appreciate any advise. Thanks

Personally, everytime I book early I find a better deal to come along later. Such as the free dining that is being offered in Aug/Sept. I could just about kick myself for not waiting a few more months before waiting to book a trip.

I'm not sure exactly how far in advance you can book. I do know your price isn't confirmed until the actual prices for those dates are released. If you book and a discount comes out for that time period, you can change your reservation and take advantage of the special deals that come out. Good luck and welcome to the boards.

Disney seems to book up to a 1 - 1 1/2 years out. So the soonest you'll probably be able to book is January 2008.

I just tried to book January 2008 -- they aren't accepting reservations for packages, only for rooms! And they don't even have the room rates released, yet!

I think that two years in advance is a bit too early.

Package rates are not released until approximately the second week of August, the year before (so August 2008 for you). You can reserve room only before that, and convert it to a package and get the rate when they are released, but it doesn't seem necessary. It seems that any specials don't come out until around 6 months (or less) before travel. They can usually be applied to an existing booking.

If it was me, I would wait until package rates were available and book at that time.

In my opinion, 2 years may be too early to actually book your trip, but it's not too early to start planning the specifics of your trip . If it were me, I would get out my Passporter and start figuring out just what I want to do and when, including my touring plan, places for meals, etc. Then I would be all ready when it is time to actually book. Also, I would keep my eyes open even now for good deals...when the 2009 prices are posted, I would keep checking WDW's website and start calling them every so often and checking prices. But, I agree that the closer you get to your trip, the better the chance for a good deal. Have fun and happy planning !

Thank ya'll for your help. I knew it was too soon now, but wasn't sure exactly when to start working on it. We promised our youngest son a trip when he is in kindergarten, he was too young the last time. He pours over our scrapbook pictures and ask "Will I be tall enough to ride that?" Then after I tell him he should be, he replies "Oh yea!" The waiting is sure the hardest part. Great board, look forward to many happy minutes spent here planning and dreaming.

It's so hard to wait for a trip. Hopefully the time will fly for you if you hang out on the Passporter boards. Go ahead and start your planning. Buy the Passporter. Start keeping a list of to-do's, places to eat and any tips you read here. I started planning my December trip almost a year and half before hand. Check out Deb's Unofficial Walt Disney World Vacation Information Guide - WDW Planning Guide - Walt Disney World for additional indepth info and MouseSavers.com - Historical Information on Walt Disney World Resort Discounts to get an idea of specials and when they are released. I saw the Passporter 2008 is available soon. Never done or used any of this before. Would it be helpful to buy it and go ahead and use it, even though our trip is in 09. How important is the year? Thanks everyone for your help, I know I am asking all the uneducated new girl questions. Kathy

I would go ahead and buy it as soon as 2008 becomes available. You will be fine using a 2008 for a trip in 2009. Yes, this one will have all of the updated info but if anything changes before your trip you'll have the info by sticking close to this board.
It's not just a book with info. It's an awesome planning tool.

No problem asking questions. That's what it's all about.

Welcome to my world! We already know we want to go back in Dec 09 and the wait is killing me! I have a file on my computer called "Next Disney trip" and it's a running list of things we want to do -- restaurants we haven't been to, foods I want to try. Even with 2 1/2 years I'm sure I'll come home with a new list of "wish-I-had"s.
And I've always gone with a year-old Passporter since our trips would be close to publication date -- once I had read and marked up a version I didn't buy a new one weeks before we left. You should be fine with a 2008 for a trip in early 09.
