Booking in Jan for August - is it too late?

My husband is a police officer and they do not get their vacation dates until the middle of January. I know we want to go during the first two weeks in August but he won't know until January.

Will it be too late to get 2 rooms for the Poly?

This is so frustrating because I keep reading the posts where there are people booking for next year. I am happy for them but I am crying for me.

I answered your question in a previous post, but I'll answer again here to make sure you see it.

I do not know about booking odds at Poly, BUT could you book now, then alter dates if need be when DH request vaca?

I feel your pain. My DH is a detective and they usually pick in late Nov. for the following year so I know how hard it is to plan ahead. I would take into consideration where your DH is on the seniority picking order, whether you plan on going over school breaks, etc. I would probably pick a roundabout time you think he'll have no problem getting off (non-school holiday times) and book the trip. Once he makes his picks then adjust the dates if need be. Good luck!

I booked our trip in January and we are going in three weeks - we didn't have a problem at all. Now, we aren't staying at the Polynesian (we're staying at POFQ), but in my experience all went well. I would do as the others stated. Book the days you are hoping to stay as soon as you can and if need be you can change the dates around. I would think the second week in August shouldn't be too bad because a lot of school districts are either in session or close to it (we're going the 4th week in August and it's priced as the value season because of the school schedules). I might be off the mark here, but I think you'll get that room at the Poly! No tears! Just pixie dust for luck

There's always a chance you may not get what you want, but I would think you'd be fine. There are package discounts coming up later than that for that timeframe and lots of people book even later than that.

When in August are you planning on going? The first two weeks may be harder to get than the last two weeks, but I think you'll be fine either way.

I've traveled in August several times. I've never reserved a room until later in the year, so I know you'll be fine.

Historically, August is a less busy month at Disney so you probably would be fine. The Poly is popular though and I'm in agreement with the others to book for a date early and then readjust later. Good luck. You'll have a blast!

barring seeing actual numbers, the first 3 weeks of August are still prime traveling season as far as I know.

also note that Disney consistently runs at 90-95%+ occupancy rate every day of the year.

that said, I've been able to book a vacation only a few days out, but I haven't tried it in the summer season either.

you can definitely get something, but there's no guarantee you can get what you want.

If you have your heart set on the Poly, I see no reason why you couldn't book now and cancel or change later (as long as you're within the cancellation window). Then you don't have to worry!

I think you would be ok too but like others have said...I would just book (all you have to do is pay the deposit) and then make changes when he finds out what days he will have off...

I agree that it shoudn't be an issue, but no harm in booking & just paying the small deposit and adjusting when need be. Have a wonderful trip!
