Our 'little family vacation' turned into a Grand Gathering. We are booked for Tony's Breakfast and the Safari Dinner.
We decided it was worth it because our family doesn't get together often and it gave us a chance to do something special in a little more 'restricted' atmosphere (we hope) than just dining together, etc.

We did a The Magical Fireworks Voyage on our trip in 2007. We loved it! We got a special pin and tons of snacks. The pirate on the boat was a lot of fun. He did trivia questions and gave out prizes. They played the music to the fireworks on the boat. It was great! I would do it again!
We did the Tony's Breakfast the last time and are doing it again this year, it is lots of fun. We also did a fireworks cruise and that was good too but this time we are too many people for it, it would have been too expensive for us.

8 or more for a GG. Check with your travel agent, (services are usually free, and will help things go as smooth as possible) and if you don't have one yet, I would be happy to help!
On our 90 day mark, our TA ( MarisaG from Mouse Ears Travel) called to make our ADRs. My group of 20 tried to get the Safari dinner, but there were not enough openings. The only opening there was was for Illuminations, but it was for the night we had CRT ADR's. So, we are not making use of Grand Gatherings at all (except, of course, if they can put our 3 villas close together).
By the way, it's a minimum of 8 people -- 80% of whom have to be staying at a Disney resort.
Also, if you want to book the Grand Gathering event meals, those can be booked at 180 days. (All other TS "regular" meals for the GG attendees can only be booked at 90 days out.)

We just got back from a Grand Gathering on Saturday and we did the Fireworks Cruise, International Dinner at Epcot and the Safari. We enjoyed all of them and would gladly do them again. Check out my trip report for a full report. I've got the fireworks cruise up and the Illuminations Dinner should be up before lunch. Have fun!!
