Question Free Dining Plan or Book with DVC Points?

Ok so I have turned into a crazed obsessed planner. Chaning my mind all the time, I need to stick to one thing but now I think the point mayyyy save us some money.

We are currently booked through Disney with the Free Dining Plan at WL.

I started looking at the DIS boards and found decent priced points for 'rent'
So I inquired and the Old Key West Resort is available.

So looking for opinions...would you stay with the Free DDP at the WL or book using points at the Old Key West and buy the Dining Plan and Hoppers Seperately? Is the OKW more of a commute to all the parks vs WL being so close to MK?

Also where would I find the cost of the DDP.

Thanks for the input!!!

We've stayed at OKW and loved it. The buses there seemed to run very efficiently. There is a boat to DTD right from the OKW dock. Since I don't know how much per point they are asking, it's hard to say which would be better for you. The free dining is worth about $40/adult and $11/kid per day. At least that's what you would pay to add it.

I had this same dilema, but since we decided to try several different resorts, Free Dining would not have been a good deal for us this trip.

We rented points and are staying at AKV Club Level and are saving over $ 1,000.00 dollars, if I was to book this thru Disney directly. A lot more savings than us getting free dining.

I would price OKW without any discounts and then see if renting points would save you more money or free dining then go from there.

Plus if you rent points you will be also able to save money on park tickets if you use an outside ticket agency like Undercover Tourist.

I think it depends on how much dining matters to you. If you want to sample some table service restaurants that maybe you wouldn't get to enjoy otherwise, then I'd go for free dining. If that aspect doesn't matter that much to you, then I'd go for the points.

Go to the Owning the Magic: DVC Forum and read DVCMike's Sticky about renting DVC Points and that should answer most of your questions.
