We tried to use Visa gift cards for most of our last trip. The 15% also applies to restaurants and rental car companies. It was a mess and it almost ruined the vacation. They are the worst things invented and I will never buy tham again. I work in a restaurant and see people trying to use them every day for the face value. If they get a 50 dollar gift card, I can only charge it for like 45. The other 5.00 remains in la la land for a few days before they can even use it again. Itsnot just Visa ones either. Am epress, all of them.

Oh gosh!! Nothing like a big ordeal to get you going, right? But the good news is, you are booked!!! YIPPEE SKIPPEE!! Just think of it as a teensy hurdle on your way to a great trip!!! I wonder, is it you can only do 15% at the time of booking or total?? Just curious!

Ok, just a side note, after reading the other posts, I will remember to just use my debit card or a reg cc!!! I work at a bank and we sell visa gift cards, but I had no clue they had so many issues with them!! WOW!!! I've never used them myself, and now I don't think I will, either! I thought they were just like any other gift card where you use them until thy are empty. Either all at once or in bits! Weird.....

I got the visa gift card because I wanted to surprise the family at Christmas with the trip. Our debit card is in both my husbands and mines name. I had NO idea what a pain they were. I have a seperate savings account and I went and ordered a seperate debit card just for my savings account. So I might have to cancel this booking, wait until I get my seperate card and re book. I figure I'll use the 100.00 off the card (my 15%) then use the extra (when it shows back up) for Tour Guide Mikes. It will all work out. But yeah, no Prepaid Visa cards!!

Well, at least you didn't have like the entire amount of your trip on them!! I think ours at the bank have a $500 per card limit, so it would take multiple cards to pay for a whole trip! I love your idea of suprising your dh and kidlets at Christmas!! MIL and I did that the first year her and I went to DW with my kids. We went to the Disney store and got Disney dollars (I think about $20 worth) and put them in envelopes, then we ordered the DW vacation DVD for the upcoming year and wrapped them all up in a box labeled to Brandon and Justin from mom and grandma betty. Oh, and on the two envelopes with the disney dollars we wrote "WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!!". But we opened it and watched the dvd early in the day before my nephew got there so we didn't make him feel sad. I always remember sitting in her living room next to the Christmas tree basking in the glow of our upcoming trip!!! It's a magical time to announce magical vacation!!! Let me know how it all turns out!!!
