From Trip Alone to Trip with the IL's [in-laws]...
Originally me and my husband planned on our first family vacation and first trip to Disney together(both have been separate me once him often), but how often do plans stay the same. It has now went from just us three next May to now me and him, my DMIL, DFIL and DSIL and her boyfriend.
I am trying to be happy that we are still going but I won't lie this was a big deal for me and now we went from staying in a room to camping and from DxDP to eating at the campsite most meals. I love camping and I want to be agreeable but I can't say I'm not disappointed.
On the other hand hubby did promise that since this trip wont' cost nowhere as much as we had planned and I'm willing to be a good sport that in February 2014 we can go on another trip just the three of us.
So I guess we are off to Ft. Wilderness to camp in May 2013 for a week. I am a little sad but I mean I will be in Disney for a week how bad can it be. I may have to eat lunch at the campsite but it will be a Disney campsite.
And on top of that now I get two Disney trips in less than a year and about three in two years...yeah I think I'll take that disappointed thing back.
Thank you so much for the pixie dust. I just keep telling myself that even though our first trip as a family might not be what we thought it's still Disney. Besides three trips in two years is nothing to complain about.
Keep thinking positive! This can be a great test-run for your 2014 trip! And, it will be more relaxed because you know you will be back 9 months later and can do whatever you miss from you 2013 trip! Have fun getting 2 trips instead of 1!
It may not be what you really had your heart set on, but hey, at least you still are going to Disney World! I'm sure you'll still have some magical moments
Fort Wilderness is really great and there is plenty to do there. Make reservations to see the hoop dee doo review, check out the horse barn, lay on the beach, rent a sea raycer. I wonder too, if since your in laws are there to watch your kiddo maybe hubby would take you for a date night at wilderness lodge? You can get a boat there or even walk (it's abou 1/2 mile). You two could grab dinner at artist point and then have a few cocktails at territory lounge. It'll give you some nice alone time!
I would make the best of it. I'm sure having some extra adults around could give you the opportunity to have a nice evening with the hubby. Also, having a second trip in the near future is never a bad thing. I say enjoy it and have great time!
Wow, that kinda stinks! I assume you tried to negotiate having you three in a hotel room and meeting up with them at the parks? I camp all the time with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, but I'd still hate to go from a hotel room to a campsite! I actually don't even much like sleeping in a tent, but I do it for the boys....pretty sure I'd draw the line at sleeping in a tent to keep my IN-LAWS happy!
Is it etched in stone now that you have to sleep where they're sleeping? You're being a better sport than I would be...but I think I'd still be negotiating up until the last minute. Of course, my DH hates tent-sleeping way worse than I do, so it wouldn't come up, but still....
Anyway, if you're going to be the good guy, I wish you well! You're a better woman than I am. Good luck!...and maybe keep pushing it. I do wonder what your hubby's rationale is that means you have to sleep in the same place as his parents & sister? Especially since it kills what was supposed to be a romantic getaway. Maybe if you stayed in a value resort so the price difference wouldn't be so huge? No, not trying to talk you out of being a good sport, I'm just [ticked] off on your behalf.
Again, good luck!
Ginger
PS: Oh yes, and how old is your child? I wouldn't even consider camping with someone under 5, although I know some people (crazy) who have camped with infants and apparently kept their sanity. Also, I'm assuming you already have every bit of the camping gear you would need; otherwise, you're talking some big bucks that could negate the cost savings. Keep us posted!

Thanks to everyone for all the and the ideas for things to do at the fort. I think I may have to do the date night with the hubby.
I know this is not the trip I planned but the most important thing is I will be in Disney with my family and seeing it through my son's eyes who will be just about 4 and a half. We are lucky because they have an RV and a popup and now are gonna let us use that so at least it's not a tent.
Trust me I not an , I was upset for three days about it but I realized that when he is now going to give me another trip nine months later I can't really complain. I love him and I am lucky that my IL's are really great people.
