Thoughts on an August trip

Hello! We are so excited to possibly revisiting Disney after being there 4 years ago!
Our first trip was PERFECT so our expectations are quite high I'm afraid. Last time we went in mid October, stayed at Pop Century. Weather was perfect, no rain!

So we are looking in to going one of the last two weeks of August......anyone want to talk me out of it???? I'm concerned about the heat. The last time I was at Disney in August I was a teenager myself and remember it being hot, hot hot! This is sort of a last minute decision to POSSIBLY go to Disney this summer but I'm wondering if we should hold off and go another time.

Is the heat worth enduring in exchange for a cheaper rate and lower attendance in the parks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have never been at the end of august but i took my Honeymoon in Aug 2011 and it was HOT but worth it.

But being from New Orleans i'm used to the Heat. The Cheaper rates make it worth it and as long as u stay HYDRATED u should b fine.

Get plenty of water and a water mister and it will cool u down tremendously.

Pop Century is a great place to stay.

Hope this helps a little

I went to Disney in August 1997 and 1998 with my ex husband and it was hot. The trip was unbearable but not because of the heat, but who the company was. The second trip was a save our marriage trip. I am remarried, so the save our marriage didn't work out. But if you take breaks in the middle of the day and drink lots of water, you should be fine.

We've done a lot of August trips because of school. My feeling is if you have dates in the later fall or spring that you could visit, do it then. If it's your only choice, you can do it (we do) and still have a good time.

August is unbearable most of the time. We usually get to the parks at opening, leave after lunch and return at dinner time. We usually sit in our room to cool off in the afternoon, watching dvds and putting together puzzles and reading books. Midday is just awful in the sun and it often rains around 3-4 pm for about an hour.

We're going at the end of August for the third year now. Yes, it is hot but since it's the end of the summer our bodies are at least used to it. There are plenty of places to get cooled off . . . some rides, inside theatre shows, restaurants, a shady spot with some icecream, etc. Just be sure to stay hydrated. We also bring handheld fans with us for a few quick instant breezes. We did decide on our last trip spending the whole day in AK was too much as there are not as many places to get a break from the heat because we wanted to explore the paths and see a lot of the animals. If you're prepared and plan accordingly for the heat I think you'll be fine. We like the savings and the lower crowds. We can't pull our kids out of school and it's too crowded and expensive to go during school vacation weeks for us.

We went the last week in August the last time we were there, and we are doing the last week in August next year. My kids are too old to be missing school, and they go back to school after Labor Day. Yes, it is hot. We spend time inside stores, or anywhere else cool, frequently, and make sure to drink lots of water. The good things about late August are the low crowds compared to the rest of the summer, and free dining usually starts the last week of August. It works for us!

All of the same reasons that we pick the last week in August! It just works out as a perfect ending to the Summer for the kids. Free dining is awesome, crowds are less and the weather though hot, it could be worse..... Too hot? 2 waterparks and plenty of pools!

We have been going during the summer for the last few years, we normally traveled during the week before Labor Day, last year traveling at the end of July / 1st week of August.

Won't lie it is hot...but I used to be so scared of going during the summer, now we love it. The girls are too old to take out of school so sumber just works. We usualy get out early in the AM - hit a store, head back to the resort for a swim, or enjoy a late lunch during the hot midday hours, depending on what part we are in there are always places to hide out from the heat...for example Illuminations at Epcot or we head into the Hall of Presidents at the Magic Kingdom.

It is so worth it for us to be able to take a longer trip plus we loved the end of August as the crowds were lower and we usually scored free dining. Definitely worth it in my eyes.

It will be very hot. It will be very humid. It will rain lots of days around 3:00 for about 20 minutes. But it's still WDW, so gio for it

You will be fine in August as long as you are prepared for the best! Drink plenty of water and plan your days accordingly. There are plenty of placed in all of the parks to get out of the heat and a break from the parks to back to your resort for a swim, shower and/or nap will refresh you for a very enjoyable evening! Have fun, everyday at WDW is Fun & you will enjoy

I have the same worry too! and we're from Canada, so the humidity is an issue too!

We're going Aug 22-Sept 3rd.
I can't take the Kids out of school, and I can't do spring break or Christmas crowds - I have anxiety issues.

Our plan is Rope drop - noon, either a table service meal then back to the hotel, or straight back out to the hotel. We'll stay in till 4-6pm, depending on ADRs for dinner, then enjoy the parks till closing.

We have done the late august trip several times and it's really not that bad. It is hot but if you alternate indoor and outdoor attractions and keep hydrated you will be fine. It is hot and humid in new jersey anyway so I'd rather be @ WDW.

2012 will be our 4th late August trip and we love it! DH is a teacher so we're limited to summer and very busy spring and Christmas breaks. We prefer to do late August which allows us to tour with very little crowds and the discounts allows us to stay much, much longer. Yes it's hot and humid but we experience that at home as well.

Okay, so I'm not from New Jersey but....I've done many August trips and really don't think it is that bad. We walk through the stores instead of on the walkways. We tale our time with meals, just to enjoy the cool a little longer. As far as rain, I have to say this is probably one of my favorite things about August. Following the rain it seems to cool off a bit. But my favorite reason for the rain? I know the rain usually doesn't last long, apparently other people do not or they just freak out when it starts. Many people will leave the park, not me!! After the hour or raining, it is even less crowded than it was when the day started. There have been several times our meal at a CS has turned into us sitting inside for 1-2 hours just waiting for the rain to pass but it has always been worth it.

The heat doesn't bother me as much as the rain. We have travelled to WDW several times in August and we always seem to catch the tail end of a hurricane where it doesn't rain for an hour - it rains for days.

I would rather travel in August than not at all, but, personally I would choose reliable weather and crowds over the risk of torrential rain.
