Angry August Vacation Worst Timing Ever!

My Dad and I planned our August trip in January. We planned to go the 8/18-8/24. I was waiting for a late summer room discount or free dining. How is it we planned a trip that falls between both discounts! We have already booked our airfare and can't afford 7 trip change fees! I am so frustrated! I am trying to let it go but I feel really cheated. I know that there is nothing to be done, I am just venting.

Sorry to hear that. I arrive in Disney 09/30/12 and miss the free dining myself. We had booked our airfare as well. I feel your pain.

Free dining did start a bit earlier in the past, but it seems like they have been pushing it closer to Labor Day. Sorry you missed a discount.

I was lucky with my August 2012 reservation. In December 2011 when I was at WDW I got a 35% Room Only Bounceback rate from August 9, 2012 - August 23, 2012 in a Standard Club Level Room at the Boardwalk Inn. However when I just saw that brand new Room Only public discount it's only 25% off the Deluxe Resorts and it's until August 14, 2012 which wouldn't have worked out for me.

Same boat here.

We get there 8-5 and leave the 20th. missed all the breaks so far. Doesn't matter we are going to enjoy Disney. Whatever the expense.
We can only go at that time anyway

Sorry your trip hits right in the middle of the promotions. But don't give up hope yet, it's only April....you never know what will happen between now and then. There is still a chance you will be able to take advantage of an offer. Regardless, I am positive you will have a magical trip!

That stinks! In January, we almost booked our trip for that same week in August, but had some unexpected expenses at home and had to put booking off for a few months. It ended up working in our favor - by the time we had everything at home in order we saw the free dining plan was offered and planned new dates around the offer.

I know when I book a vacation, I book for the time I want to go and base my trip on what I can afford to pay. I don't EVER expect a discount so if I manage to get one, it's a pleasant surprise and money saved. If I don't get one, I still have a Disney trip planned. We too typically go in August and aren't able to take advantage of the free dining but you know what? I've found the past few years the time BEFORE the discount is nice crowd wise everywhere - and I'd rather the lower crowds than the free dining plan.

You can still hope for a Pin code that would give you a discount.

I am going to be patient. Last year the room discount for the week I am going wasn't released until June. We will have a great time no matter what!
