To me, this is a no brainer, Magic Kingdom! However, my DD has informed me that the single most important thing to do on the first day is to find Duffy! (Move over Princesses!) This of course means go to Epcot. However, our first day in the parks is Sunday, 9/29. According to the WDW website, this is the first weekend of the Food and Wine festival. Would we be crazy to go to Epcot on this day?

Either you are going to be slam packed at MK on a Sunday or packed at Epcot for F&W. MK is packed no matter what. Epcot will be busier on Sunday than Monday because of the locals coming to F&W. It's like 6 in one hand half dozen in the other. lol
Actually, the 29th is Saturday, and Sunday is the 30th. I just checked easywdw.com and Josh highly recommends Magic Kingdom for the 30th. And I have to say that I always start my WDW vacations on Saturdays and do MK on my first full day (which would of course be Sunday) and have never felt it was crowded.
See we are totally different. All three of my kids vote Epcot first day. It's our favorite park. But I agree both MK and EP will be busy but Epcot can handle the crowds better.
When the kids were little we always went to MK on the day we arrived (because you usually had 2 days each for MK and Epcot). However this trip we are going to Epcot.
Good Luck with your decision- but I bet DD will win! : )
I would go with EPCOT because Duffy is there and that way since Duffy is of importance to your family, you can get that out of the way, enjoy EPCOT, and then enjoy the rest of your trip at MK and the rest. Have fun
I would go to Epcot first because if other guests are just going there for the Food & Wine Festival maybe it will mean less lines for their attractions.

I agree, EP can definitely handle the crowds better. Additionally, I like to dodge MK on the weekends because of the larger crowds.
I watch the calendars and pick according to that. Before knowing such things existed, I just went to MK the first day. Know that I know better, I check the calendars before deciding. This trip, we'll be doing Epcot first.
We decided to avoid both MK and EP on Sat 9/29 because they both have projected high crowd levels. Also, after traveling on Friday night, we can let girls start with a shorter day, so we are doing AK on Saturday, EP on Sunday and MK on Monday. MK will also be having the MNSSHP on Sunday night so park hours are only until 7pm.

You're right. We check in on Sat the 29th. Our first day in the parks is going to be Sunday the 30th.

You're right. I'm leaning on going to Epcot first. This whole planning thing has been slightly amusing. Our trip has been pushed back twice. DD has known each time. She's also helping a bit with the planning. It's funny how her priorities chage each time!
We will have 2 days at each MK and Epcot, so we have plenty of time to see and do everything we want. It's just a matter of which to do first!
