Holy Cow! Wow - this went fast! And we have STILL kept it a secret from the kids! (nothing short of amazing)
We will be packing surreptitiously ... another difficult feat!
We are headed to Philly the night before we leave from the airport - under the veil of going sightseeing and making it a "fun" trip by staying overnight. The plan remains to tell the kids the morning we leave. But as of yet - we are still at a loss of how exactly to go about it. I do want to video it, because I am fairly sure they will lose their minds! Any ideas are welcome!
More than anything - just wanted to share my excitement!
Have a wonderful trip, and congratulations on keeping it a secret. I would never be able to do that. How about if the morning you are going to the airport, tell them "you will need this" and hand them each a bag or backpack with Disney goodies - t-shirt, lanyard, autograph book, etc.
We've surprised our kids a few different ways. One time I got them Kids WDW Guide books and wrapped them in Disney paper. Woke them up bright and early and brought them into my room to open their gift. Another time they came into the kitchen to find a Disney themed breakfast waiting for them complete with Mickey confetti and a brief daily itinerary. Last trip we told then ahead of time and they said it was torture. They've asked to be surprised for the next trip. Have fun with it! I will say you don't always get the reaction you expect. One time my then 4 year old cried and said she was too young to go to WDW. Of course, the fact that it was 4AM probably had something to do with it.
You are good at keeping a secret so long and planning at the same time! One year we gave our DGS a trip to Disney for his 9th bday, long story short, his bday is early April so we were able to keep it a secret and his bday gift was Disney related items, it was sooo great and he only had to wait 2 weeks, which I'm sure was torture for him.
Anyway, maybe the morning you leave you could give them each a Disney Gift Card wrapped up in a Disney themed card??? Jhoshowski & Disneydork have great ideas. I'm sure something will pop into your head and it will be wonderful!
Have a great time and good luck! SW+7
Have a great trip and congrats on keeping the secret. You could either make or buy cards with Mickey and friends on it and write something clever on the inside such as "excited to be seeing you later today" or something like that.
Im sure whatever you do they will be soooooo excited!!!!!!!
HI everyone!! 2 days and counting!! I am so excited! And yes - kids still have no clue AND we are 99% packed and suitcases hidden!
We decided to wake them up Saturday morning and tell them we have good news and bad news... The bad news is, we are not going to be going to hanging out in Philly for the weekend, as planned. The good news is, we are headed to Disney for a week!
The surprises will keep coming, when we head down to catch the shuttle and their grandparents will be hoping on board with us! At the airport in Fl, their Aunt (my sis) will meet us and at the resort, their great aunt and uncle (Disney fanatics!) will be arriving at the condo next door! whef....
I can't wait!
I will absolutely take a video and post it when I can. And I did think about the fact that the reaction could be different from what we expect...
