I think it opened up in June 2011 for 2012, but it varies year to year. Usually it is August.

You can book room reservations 499 days in advance. You can call Disney and pay for one night in the hotel and change it over to a package when the package prices come out in August.

2013 room rates and packages are not available for booking. You can book what is known as a "placeholder" room only reservation at 2012 rates but the rate WILL change when 2013 rates are announced and you will need to pay any additional deposit amount due. This is really only recommended if you are looking for a very specific room type and resort and will be visiting during a busy time.

Thanks so much for your help! I think we are trying to book a standard room at the animation of art resort whenever they are available for reservations

2013 room rates have been out for a little while now - my agent booked our 2013 trips last month with confirmed 2013 rates. You have to call for them, they aren't on line yet.
This is not correct. If this is what you were told, you need to have your agent double- and triple- check this information and get it in writing that your rate is guaranteed. It is a common misconception that because you can book 2013 rooms now, the rates are guaranteed. They are NOT. The rate can and almost certainly WILL change.

Yes I have also booked a July 2013 room only at 2013 rates. I know that normally the rates aren't guaranteed but I have faith that my TA has the proper info as it jives with the above comment.

Confusing, for sure. We are planning on spending a couple of nights at AoA before our cruise in March, but now I guess I will wait a little longer before calling to book.

I absolutely believe that you were told your rates were guaranteed. And I hate to see people get incorrect information. And even as Travel Agents, we get incorrect information from Disney on occasion! So much so that I double checked the information we were given! Here is the response I received from our Disney rep today:

Quote:
The packages and room rates for 2013 are not posted yet. A room reservation for 2013 is with a non guarantee rate, that’s mean when the rates come out the reservation will be adjusted with the new rates if the rates change. Hope this information help. Feel free to contact me with any other question.

Thank you and have a Magical day!

So someone is being given the wrong information. No way to really know who at this point. But I personally will not be guaranteeing rates for my clients for 2013 at this point.

Thank you Belle, for researching this and providing us with accurate information! I too am looking for a booking in January and am waiting for the guaranteed rates to come out.

My understanding is the same as Sara's.

Sara is a TA, and is one of the best there is, so I would stick with what she has been consistent about saying in this thread, and what she was kind enough to confirm in writing from Disney.

I have a room only reservation for the beginning of Jan that I just made last week and I was also told the rates will change once they prices are released for 2013. I also have a package that starts on Dec 31, so the rates are guaranteed since the vacation technically starts in 2012. Is there a chance you live outside of the US? I think they post prices for UK early so they have time to plan and save for the trip. But the information I have been told in the US is the same thing Belle has stated.
