Hello all! This surprise thing is killing me, so I thought I'd share here. We've been going to Disney the past several years during our summer vacation, but have told the kids we are not able to go this year. They were disappointed, but good sports about it, asking if we could go to the zoo instead . Little do they know, we're booked for 10 nights at WL in August AND my best friend and her family are going to be there at the same time. I thought we might tell the kids next month, so they had a few months to look forward to it, but DH wants to tell them the morning we leave. I agreed, but good gracious how am I going to make it?? LOL!! They'll have double the surprise when we show up to dinner that night at Chef Mickey's and they see their friends there . I can't wait, but let's hope I do!
I'm extra excited today because I called Yak & Yeti for a reservation and had a great talk with the gentlemen who took the call. He's got me so looking forward to eating there!!!
Anyways, thanks for reading if you made it through

Good luck keeping the surprise! We surprised our kids last November, it was so hard to keep it from them. I almost blabbed more times than I can count I am certainly not trying to rain on your parade, but be prepared that their response to the surprise might not be what you are expecting. We didn't tell our girls until the morning we were leaving and they were really confused to say the least. I didn't get that jump up and down screaming with excitement reaction that I thought I would and it was a little disappointing
Thanks for the feedback . Still not sure if I'll make it to then, but I'll try. I hope their reaction is good, but I'll definitely be prepared for it not to be.

I don't know how I could keep quiet. Just thinking about it now, it hurts my stomach..lol!
I give you ALL the credit!!! Good for you! Maybe you might want to tell your kids a week before- that way they have some time to plan. But just tell them that they are going, not about your friend and her family!

Just my 2 cents : )
That's what I've been thinking. That way I don't have to hide the luggage!!

I have decided to not tell my kids about our next trip either. They know we are going to Disney at some point, but have no idea when, so they have the anticipation and the fun of planning, but being surprised as to when it will actually happen! We are going to let them know on Christmas Day by letting them open a present with the news! Have a great time, and I am sure they will be excited!
My oldest has been saving (hoarding) change hoping to get enough to take me to WDW for my birthday in July...my husband and I have planned a "double reverse" trip...we're surprising him and his brothers with a trip this July . That said, I really wanted Coach to let Nolan in on the trip so he could help plan, decide where we should stay, etc. But Coach has watched one too many You tube videos of parents revealing "the surprise". So...he thinks we'll be able to pack up and get on the road for a bit of our trip - hopefully all the way there, before the kiddos figure out where we're going. We've had a couple of close calls - been discussing details like stroller usage and had them walk into the room, but so far they're none the wiser. I have to admit, I'm kind of getting excited now about the possibility of pulling off this surprise.

Good luck to you!! We should form a surprise trip support group

I have been keeping the same surprise. Mainly because I fear if we couldn't go I know how disappointed the kid's would be knowing they are going and then needing to cancel for reason's out of our control. Good luck with keeping it a surprise I know for me it has been a tough one to keep.
You can do it! We surprised our kids when they were younger and it was the best trip ever. The look on their faces when we woke them up that morning with the surprise was priceless! Of all the trips we have taken that is one they speak of often because of the surprise. Make sure to tape it. We did and we watch it quite often. Oh,by the way at the time my kids were 11 and 9, now they are 20 and 18 and they still have such fond memories of that surprise. You will be rewarded over and over with the memory of how you surprised them.
