I say it's always worth doing the math. You can find the ticket prices (with tax included) here on AllEars.net:
Ticket Price Comparison Chart

For MYW tickets, without expiration, without hopping:

3 Day MYW Base = $ 247.08 (Sept trip), plus
4 Day MYW Base = $ 258.80 (Dec trip)
---------------------------------------------
Total ticket cost = $505.88 for the two tickets, if purchased separately.

If you upgrade the first ticket to a 7-day non-expiring non-hopper, you'll only pay $ 454.76 total for that ticket

So, you save $50 per ticket just upgrading your package ticket to a non-expiring 7-day non-hopper ticket to cover both trips.

An Annual Pass would cost you $ 552.74, so no deal there.

If, however, you want to park hop, then add $55 when you go to upgrade to a 7-day non-hopper = $454.76 + 55 = $509.76

Still less than the AP.

Important note -- you have to upgrade the ticket within 14 days of it going through a turnstile, even if you purchase the non-expiring option. So, if you want to upgrade to the 7-day and/or add on the hopper option, you need to take care of that during your September vacation.

Unless you want to go for longer trips, or add another trip, Eileen is right, the non exp pass is best for you.

A Disney World Annual Pass starts on the day you purchase it, and expires one year and one day from that date.

So, if you bought it September 15th, 2012, it would expire on September 16th, 2013. There are no blackout dates on a standard AP (like there are on a Florida Resident's AP) and you could use it every one of those 366 days, if you'd like.)

You can parkhop with an AP, and you get discounts on other Disney products and services (including the possibility of reduced room rates, discounts on some tours and other "extras.") You can read all about Annual Pass benefits here:
Annual Pass Information and Benefits
