MVMCP... worth it???
Okay, so please bear with me as I know this question has been asked about a million times ... but here goes…. What can you tell me about MVMCP? Is it worth the additional purchase if you’re going to be in the parks mid-late December and will see all the decorations and Christmas parade anyway? What are the other advantages or special activities? We definitely want to see Magic, Memories and You, and Wishes. Do these run during MVMCP? It will be a significant added cost for the 5 of us, and definitely worth it if we get to add new special experiences to this trip, but I also don't want to feel like we were "gypped" either.
The parade at MVMCP is only during MVMCP. You will not be able to see it unless you have a ticket for the party. There is fireworks but it is not Wishes. We are planning a trip in November and are planning to goto the party and then another night at MK to see Wishes. We have been to the party before, we enjoyed it, but I feel like it is something we did once and don't really need to do again, however my daughter was 3 last time and she slept through the whole thing. When we look at pictures she asks if she can go.
With being there in December you will get plenty of Christmas without going to the party.
I personally don't think it's worth it anymore. It used to be you received discounts on Christmas items and a free picture of your group with your tickets. No longer the case for those. And the tickets were much less expensive. The Christmas parade is nice and there is a couple shows, but they get crowded and if you don't get there early enough, you can't see them well at all.
I'd save your money and just enjoy seeing MK in it's Christmas finery during a regular day (without a party planned that night) and then watch Wishes and the Memories, Magic, and You (if they still do it, which they might not, if they decorate the castle with all the lights and do that preshow instead).
We went last year in late Dec and went to MVMCP, but found that the same things are being shown after the last day of the party. In other words, on Dec 20-? they do the same parade, fireworks and snow on Mainstreet without the hard ticket. The only thing you don't have access to is the different characters dressed in Christmas clothes. Also, they sell so many of the tickets, it is very crowded so the wait times are almost as bad as regular park days. I would say skip it if you are going to be there late Dec and get to see the party things without the party price.
MVMCP is a must do for my family. My husband still occasionally whines about the fact that we went to the Halloween party 5 years ago instead of the Christmas party. You can only see the parade during the party. Also they have Christmas Wishes. If you decide to skip the party I would suggest you head to the GF dock and watch Christmas Wishes from there. They pipe in the music. Also it "snows" on Main Street. Again if you skip the party head to Osborne Lights in HS where it also "snows".
When it first started, MVMCP was a great time. Over the years, you get fewer and fewer tings to see / do and the cost just keeps going up. It's no longer worth the extra $ imho. The last 2 times we went, we were very disappointed
I've only gone once, so I'm not exactly an authority. I enjoyed our party experience. I loved the parade, the character dance party, the festive atmosphere... i thought it was totally worth it.
Now, if I went to WDW during the holidays every year, I might not think so.

Thanks so much for your responses! This is very, very helpful. We have a lot to think about. Since we'll be going down in mid-late December anyway, and will be fully immersed in the holiday decor (for the 2nd time!), it sounds like the extra cost may not be worth it for us. At almost $300 extra bucks, it may be better to go ahead and spring for a couple of nice table ressies instead!
We went to MNNSHP the first year we went to Disney & then MVMCP the last time. MNNSHP was so much better than MVMCP. I was really kind of disappointed in MVMCP so to me it's not worth the extra $$.
If you are going to be there after the last party date they switch over to the Holiday parade and fireworks I have been told. IF thats the case then I wouldnt go to the party....but if you are there before the change then I would go.
We tend to go for the parade and the fireworks, so if you're going to be there for those after the last Christmas Party, it's a tough one. I will say that it will be less crowded at the party. Once it gets to the last few days before Christmas, it gets insanely busy, so that's one thing to bear in mind....

Thanks everyone for your input! Very, very helpful. We thought about it over the weekend, weighed the pros and cons, and looked at the easywdw site (good thoughts there, thanks karen63!) and decided not to go. It just doesn't seem like it would be worth the extra cost for us considering we will get to see the parade and fireworks anyway since we're there for a few days after the last party. (The best thing that we couldn't experience during non-party nights seemed to be the free hot choco and cookies... somehow DH refused to sign off on spending the additional funds for that... go figure ). As I mentioned earlier, we will put that money to good use on a table ressie instead. Thanks!
