A little gift for those of us going during Hurricane Season.
First of all, don't sweat it. Orlando is inland, not on the coast. And the Disney resorts have been built to withstand storms; it's said that the locals go to Disney resorts if they're concerned.
But when Tropical Storm Faye visited on our last day in 2008, I was understandably a bit concerned. We kept an eye on the news. But all the information concerning watches and warnings were listed by county, and without a map I had no idea which county we were in.
Thanks to answerbag.com, I can tell you that "The Walt Disney World Resort is within the boundaries of two counties: Orange County and unincorporated Osceola County."
You'll probably never need that information. But on the off chance that a tropical storm does coincide with your trip, it's nice to know.
For what it's worth, Faye brought us our BEST day-- the parks all opened early (anticipating an early closure) and the parks were totally empty. We donned our ponchos (brought from Walmart, though the dollar store sells them too... I bring 3 apiece) and had a marvelous time.
Over the weekend:
1, We made up tip envelopes for "mousekeeping." We tip $5 per night. Since a different person cleans the room each day, we leave it on a daily, not a weekly, basis. My duaghter and I took 7 envelopes, wrote "Thank you Mousekeeping" on them, and put Disney stickers on each one. I had a $5 in my wallet, so I put it into one envelope. Each time I have either a $5 bill of 5 singles, I'll do another envelope.
2. We made a countdown chain. Each day we'll tear off another link. (As of today, there are 29 links )
3. I ordered flip flops for the girls. We love the Teva Mush flip flops; they're all I wear in the parks. The girls have both outgrown last year's pairs. So I went to amazon and got some.
Today I want to call and get transportation to and from JFK.
What a fantastic idea! I'm going to make us a chain right now!!!
We have 25 days until we leave for our Disney World vacation, so I feel your excitement!
Have a wonderful time whilst you are there
The 1 PLACE on earth I would want to be during a Hurricane is "Disney". I wish for noone to have a Hurricane during a vacation. With all the time and planning we all put into our trips, that is the last thing we want to hear "A HURRICANE IS ON IT'S WAY"!!!! So here are pixies for NO Hurricanes this YEAR!!!!!.....
Just made my paper chain and my DS LOVES it! I made it from the Disney World travel brochure, so all of the links have something on them related to our upcoming holiday!
I just placed an order with Oriental trading: http://www.orientaltrading.com/tie-d...5_34-18-0.fltr (these are a two-fer. We can keep them wet during the day, and use them to help us cool off. They're also great tied to the handle of each piece of luggage-- they make our bags so easy to spot!!!)
We leave Aug 28 for 4 days in the parks and then 7 on the Fantasy. We are really hoping for no huricanes but we were there for Francine and Disney does an amazing job.
