Newbie On the Board, [with a question about Annual Passes]
Hello everyone! Very excited to be a part of the Passporter community. My family and I are die hard Disney fans. We are DVC members and try to go to WDW at least once a year, especially since we have managed to produce two sons who are as crazy about it as we are
I do have a couple of questions though for all the AP's. Yesterday, I called and purchased annual passes for my husband, self, and sons through DVC member services. This is the first time I have ever purchased annual passes. I was told that they would not be mailed to me, but that I would pick them up at the Will Call window on our vacation. I was wondering if this is how it normally is with receiving APs. Also, how and when do I get to take advantage of the AP discounts? Our vacation is not until December, but I would like to take advantage of any resort offers for Jan. of next year. My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 yr wedding anniversary and would like to spend it at WDW. Will I be able to use any AP discounts between now and when I actually go pick up the APs, or will I have to wait until December when I physically have the cards in my hand?
Any information on this would be very appreciated! I have searched the internet over trying to find any information on this. Thank you all and I look forward to reading and discussing our mutual love of all things Disney.
We are DVC members as well and have always had to go to the will call window to pick up our APs.
As for your other questions on using the discount before you actually have the passes, I'm not sure of the answer. I know that there have been discounts we've used in the past and they required the number off our APs in order to get the discounted rate. Maybe if you talk to someone and give your AP confirmation number, you can still redeem the discount. Just a suggestion, hopefully someone else will know for sure.
I have used my AP discount when I didn't have my actual activated AP. I booked using the AP discount and was not asked for an AP number. However, you must show your actual AP when checking in. I did check in to POFQ without my AP as I had not gone to a park or the DTD guest Services to activate my card. After checking in, I went to DTD guest services and activated my AP. I then returned to POFQ and showed the CM my AP.
Since you will have your AP in hand for January trip you will not have anything to worry about.
It's because you're a DVC member that you have to go and pick them up, as usually you have to show your membership card when you do. The discount for DVC members on Annual Passes is very generous (a very nice perk ) and I guess Disney want to do everything possible to ensure that it's not abused, as it's strictly for Members and those living at the same address as a Member.
I have taken advantage of AP discounts numerous times before I had an activated AP. I had a voucher from the Disney Store. I just had to show the voucher when checking in dince I hadn't been anywhere to pick up and actually activate my AP.
