Hi! I have been to WDW just about every time of year....except March/April. I usually avoid it like the plague because I am terrified of Spring break crowds. Next year though, is DH and my 10th anniversary on March 1. DH proposed to me at the gazebo by the lake at Disney Boardwalk, so I would love to take a trip there with him to celebrate and stay at the Boardwalk Inn. Anyway, I am curious how early in March the Spring Break crowds start to come. We would most likely be going sometime between March 1 and March 8, because we have to be in Tampa for a wedding on March 9. Easter is March 31 next year - that is when our spring break is, but I know it varies for others. Anyone been the first week in March and can give me some idea of crowds? Thanks!!
I went back in 2005 March 3-9 and I thought it wasn't bad at all. Now I have heard that most spring breaks happen the second week of March and on. So I think we just barely missed the spring break crowds.
I don't think we waited in line longer than 30 min for anything and that was only a few rides. I found it pretty comparable to Sept/Oct. crowds.
Not sure if it has gotten more crowed since then though, that was a while ago.
We went in march of last year. It was more crowded then i am used to. I usually go in Sept. It was also Mardi Gras so lots of Lousiana escapees. It wasn't horrible, we managed. Loved Flower Garden Festival.
I've been to WDW the first long weekend of March twice (2003 and 2010). I say long weekend, meaning Thurs - Mon or Tues. Crowds were amazingly light! Sure, the big rides still require a FP (Soarin, Thunder Mtn, Toy Story, etc), but you can walk on many, many other rides. Especially in the mornings! Get there early, knock out all the must-do's, and the rest of the day is gravy.
Weather wise, it wasn't ideal. 2003 was fairly warm, shorts and Tshirt during the day, but a jacket at night. 2010 was downright cold, but that whole winter was downright cold. We wore our jackets the whole time in 2010, except when in the sun. I wished I had brought jeans because I ended up wearing my capris the whole time! And sneakers! I don't think I wore my sandals but once, and the kids only went to the cold pool once. And the water was freezing! So aside from the uncertainty of weather, the crowds were very managable!
