DME - concerns! [how long from the airport to the resort?]
Hi All!
This is my first time going to the World that I will be using the DME. We have 6 people and will be staying at AoA.
My concern and question is this: do they load everyone who came in on a bus and we have to go from resort to resort to resort, dropping everyone off? If so, how long will THAT take??
We are concerned it will take a long time to get to AoA and thus, lose time at the parks. We are flying in from California, arriving at about 630a on Sat Nov 24, and really don't want to waste too much time.
They try to get as many guests at the same resort on the same bus, but it can take time if your resort is at the end of the line. Your rooms probably won't be ready when you check in, so just head off to the parks. They will text you when your rooms are ready
We've used DME each time we've been.
They have routes that cover 3-4 resorts. Sometimes you wait 5 mins, other times it's been 15mins depending on the time of year. Once everyone is loaded your on your way.
Check your bags and use the luggage tags, they'll deliver your luggage right to your room!
Don't worry, it really doesn't take long. From the time we land until the time we pull up to the resort is usually an hour, max. Last trip we were stop 3 of 3 but since there was nobody on the bus for stop 2 the driver skipped it! DME Is very easy and we love it!
DME is typically pretty quick. They do a good job of loading people onto the bus and the bus routes are for hotels within the same vicinity (you won't go to every hotel on property).
I think the longest time I remember reading from getting off the plane to getting to the resort was an hour and a half. If it actually took that long for your trip, that would put you at your resort at 8 am in the morning but you should still be at a park I would say by 10 am the absolute latest (you could wait 5 minutes to check in or 25 minutes, then waiting for a bus, etc).
When I stay at POR, it normally takes an hour and a half on DME. I always figure that is about the same amount of time it would take me to pick up my luggage, get a rental car and drive to the resort.
I'm not sure about the value resorts anymore. The one time I stayed at Pop Century, it only took 45 minutes! That was fantastic.
I wouldn't worry about it. You don't stop at all the resorts, normally only 2-3 other than the one you are staying at.
We have taken DME every trip, but only me and the kids. My DH and DMom go and get the rental car. Even with having the luggage go with DME, we have always arrived at the resort about an hour before my DH and DMom. They do typically stop to get some groceries. When have always been the last stop on the DME route we have been on (typically at AKV). It's nice to not have to drag the kids and luggage to the rental car agency and they enjoy the ride on the bus.
Love ME it is Great. Always remember to take a carry-on with things you need right away. It may take a while to get your luggage delivered o your room.
Agreed about the not worrying too much about not having enough time in the parks. Once you get to your resort, you'll be able to check-in, but as others have mentioned, your room might not be immediately available and your bags that DME is transferring from the airport to the resort will take a few hours, so you'll have a lot of time to do nothing but go to the parks! Not a bad thing, I know.
DME really is a great service, but as efficient as it is, it does require about an hour of your time when getting from the airport to your resort.
It usually takes us under an hour from when we unboard the plane and get to the resort. The buses are really organized well and are usually ready to board right away.
I would love to try DME at least once! I like the idea of my bag waiting for me in my room later in the day.
That's our thinking for next year - try DME at least once. Plus it doesn't hurt that right now, the car rental quotes I'm getting tells me that renting from the Car Care Center is cheaper than getting from the airport so we'll actually do both - take DME but still have a rental.
