I'm glad things worked out and I think that's a great idea about your cap and gown in front of the castle. Since you're the first to graduate college in your family and it's a big deal for your parents, make sure you give them a nice copy of it - I bet they'll enjoy seeing it too.
Does your college actually have you guys go up and get your diploma like high school? I ask cuz a lot of schools around here just have the group of students stand up by their chairs and then everyone cheers and they mail you your diploma. To me that would not be worth going to.
How ours works is you walk on stage and get a diploma in a black pretty case thing. Only in the case there is just a piece of paper saying your diploma will be mailed. I'm not clear on why they don't skip a step and just hand out diplomas.
Glad it worked out. I know you will be happy that you made that choice. It is a great accomplishment, so CONGRATS! . Also, I love that you and your roommate are going to bring your cap and gown to have a pic made! What a fabulous idea! Have fun!

I actually believe I know why they do this! My good friend found out after the graduation ceremony that her GPA in her major was just a hair too low (like 0.1 too low) for her to graduate, so AFTER she got the fake diploma, she had to go to summer school to take another class to raise her GPA. Apparently, all the grades weren't in on time for ceremony. OR maybe they didn't want to have to notify people who had ordered caps & gowns, had family visiting, etc., and make them un-invite guests, not too sure.

Usually grades get turned in too close to the ceremony to verify actual graduation.
And in my experience, most colleges don't make the graduates sit alphabetically. I walked and sat with my friends for college graduation. So they wouldn't know the order to put them in.
Ohio State is one of the few schools I know that does actual diplomas for graduation -- it's certainly one of the biggest -- and it's a logistical nightmare.
Glad you shose to walk if not for yourself for your parents. I look back and really wish I would have walked. I also was the first in my family to graduate from a 4 year school. Looking back I should have gave my Mom that moment, if not for anything else!
