what to pack to carry in parks and in what? Last year we took our DD, no problems. This year our DS will be going for the first time. Any suggestions on what to bring for him? I know diapers, etc. He will be 14 mos. and we will be there in Dec. I cannot decide between a backpack or a messenger bag. I want my camera and video camera handy, but with not carrying a load. Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? Spread the things you carry between your group. If DD is old enough, she could carry her autograph book and a pen in a fanny pack. You and your spouse should use whatever kind of bag is most comfortable to you and one of you can carry the baby needs and the other can carry the camera components. Try not to take more than you need to the parks and reassess at the end of each day and take out or add anything that you need to.

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? I assume that your DS will be in stroller. Given that, I would recommend that you pack one bag that you could leave on the stroller that does not have any valuable items in it and in the unlikely event that it is lost or stolen, all items could be replaced. I would then recommend a small backpack or belt pack for your cameras and any valuable items. This way you can leave one bag with the stroller and take the other with you on rides or places where the stroller won’t work well. We trade off carrying our backpack so that it does not get annoying for one person.

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? I'm bringing my 7 month old DD so I feel you on the diaper things. I'll have my big old Graco stroller though, so we're packing heavy! LOL! I'm bringing: Tote bag with diapers, wipes, formula packets, bottle, bottle of water, and crackers. Extra onesie, three or four burp rags (she has reflux so we have to bring a bunch of them wherever we go), a little blanket for indoor things where she might be chilly, and her sunglasses. For myself and mom, a bottle of water each, my digital camera, mom's digital camera and my camcorder. And then I'm bringing a Snugli for the few rides we'll go on with DD, so I don't have to rely on just holding the little wiggle worm. And of course I'll have my cash / ID / credit cards with me in a secure location. The stroller is a lifesaver, though. I don't have to carry a thing!

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? I've been trying to figure this out, also. This is our first trip to Disney and we will have an almost 3 year old and a 15 month old. We will have a double stroller, that has two baskets underneath. I plan on packing everything in large gallon size baggies, so it won't get lost or wet. . I also have a mesh thingy that goes on the back of the stroller, that's where I will keep diapers, wipes, diaper baggies to dispose of dirty diapers, and hand gels. All of these things will be in a ziplock baggie. Underneath, in the baskets, I will have a change of clothes & socks for each child (in a baggie),towels, and a few toys thatI have actually bought here in my local Disney Store. It's cheaper and if they get lost/stolen, it's no big deal. Also for the evening, I might bring a small blanket or jackets for the kids. I also have a cheap rain poncho ($1.00) that I got at Walmart to leave in the baskets, so if it rains we can cover up the stroller. We will also have a "child's leash" (I don't like that term, but I don't know what else to call it) . WE've never used one before, but will have one just in case we need to use it. Then I am also bringing some snacks in baggies (cereal bars, chex mix, fish crackers, bottle water, etc.). That will also be in one of the baskets underneath. I will have two sippy cups for the kids. (and maybe a spare one incase one gets lost) Also EXTRA baggies to keep maps and other items that I want saved for our scrapbook. Hopefully, anything we buy in the shops , I can have them deliver it to the hotel and that stuff will stay at the hotel. Then we have decided NOT to use a backpack. For us it's just a pain to carry around and keep track of in the park. My husband and I will both use waist packs. Somebody online recommended this type- it's suppose to be arriving by Friday, so I'll let you know if I like it. Here's a link: http://www.ebags.com/high_sierra/cor...?modelid=18414 In the waist packs, will be our video camera (it's small) our digital camera, extra batteries, an autograph books,/pens, chap stick, hand wipes/sanitizers, travel size sunscreen, tylenol, bandaids, money/creditcards/place to hold FAstpasses/tickets, cellphone, Between the two of us, I think we can get that stuff in our waist packs. We are staying at the CR, so it's real close to MK & Epcot, if we need to go back and get other stuff. I really want to take only the necessities and not be loaded down. Then I will also have a larger bag that will be folded up in the bottom of the stroller. When we board the bus/monorail to go home, I will take out the stuff in the baskets and put them in this bag. That way I can fold up my stroller with ease, without all the stuff falling out. Those are my ideas. Hopefully I am on the right track!! Take care and Good Luck Kathryn

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? Kathryn - that is so organized! And the big bag for putting everything in when you fold up the stroller - great idea!!! We're just going to be using the monorail, and I believe you don't have to fold up strollers on there - is that right? Otherwise I'd better pack a big bag, too!

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? Thanks, you are awesome,so organized! I know I was never that organized on any of my trips to WDW, well done! Last year, we had our DD on a "child's leash" don't like that term either, but I loved it. I knew where my DD was at all times. It gave her a little bit of freedom and it saved my back from not having to bend down and run after her. We got a few bad looks, who cares, in this day and age, my child's safety is #1. You just never know. thank so much for all the info. I am gonna check the bag right now! You are ready, have an awesome first trip!!

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? Very organized!! We went last year with 3 1/2 year old twins and an 11 month old and did the ziploc bag thing in the bottom of the stroller. worked out great and many times we didn't need to take them out to fold up the strollers. It also makes going through the security checkpoint quicker. One thing about the "leash"...you may want to use it at home just so your daughter is used to it. I didn't use it often with my twins, but the first time they were "hooked up" they were stumbling all over because they didn't realize they could only go so far. Its not a bad thing to use, when safety is an issue who cares what others think...but i wouldn't want your child to think he/she could run ahead and then fall when she couldn't. And yes, with the monorails you can just roll the strollers on, no need to fold them up.

Re: what to pack to carry in parks and in what? Hi, I try to be organized, but I'm not always successful!! This year we have traveled to China to bring home our daughter, taken a road trip from KC (my home) to Alabama and then to Chattanooga, then in late July we flew to Seattle for a week because my husband had some business there. I've slowly learned to be more organized as we travel, especially with two little ones. Today I received that waistpack I mentioned in my previous post. I LOVE IT!!!! It has tons of zipped pockets, it's big, waterproof, etc... It has tons of room!!! I look forward to using it for our trip. Oh, I forgot to mention in my post that I will also be bringing those GREAT Passporter Maps!! I am going to laminate mine and then fold them like they are in the book. They will also fit nicely in my waistpack. Take care and have a great trip!!! kathryn
