Columbus Day Week I'm debating between going the first week of October and the second week, which would be Columbus Day week. We're DVC, so we stay Sun. through Fri. so as not to book those expensive weekend points. The kids would miss five days of school the first week, but only two full and two half days the second week. I'm just concerned about the crowds. Does anyone have any experiences they can share? Thanks so much!

Re: Columbus Day Week I was there over Columbus Day in 2002 and you couldn't tell the difference between that week and the next week of October when we were there in 2004. Low crowds, great weather, October is a great time to go. Go with whatever week the kids miss the least school so they have less work to make up.

Re: Columbus Day Week I tried to book 2 2-bedrooms, standard view, at the Boardwalk for the week of Columbus Day. This was in November, about 2 weeks after the 11 month window, and I could not get the standard view rooms. Since we are borrowing points to invite my Brother-in-law and his family along, I could not afford to get preferred view. Just wanted to let you know that you should check availability before you finalize your plans. I made the original ressie in Nov, and was waitlisted for standard view. I checked in Jan, and was still waitlisted, so I canceled and booked the week BEFORE Columbus Day. Had no trouble getting standard view. My Brother-in-law said this was ok, kids only get one day off for Columbus Day, so it didn't matter too much. My oldest nephew is going to be almost 17 when we go, so it will probably be his last trip in HS. We LOVE going in Oct, it is our favorite time of year. The Halloween Party and Food and Wine Festival are wonderful. Beth

Re: Columbus Day Week Thanks, Kris and Beth! We'll be taking my parents along and will need a 2BR, but I'm thinking we'll stay at OKW for the lower points. I'm mostly concerned about large crowds, as we're so spoiled going during the slow times. I'm really looking forward to the Halloween party and the Food & Wine!
