Thumbs up What's there for TEEN BOY

We are taking our first trip as a family to WDW this FEB (Honeymooned at WDW '90). Our son (only child) is 14 1/2. We are Califrnians, and my son has been to DL several times starting as a toddler. We are staying at Shades of Green.

What are the cool/in things for him to do at WDW?

He is most interested in video games. Where are the best arcades on property?

Where do teens hang out?

Things for teen boys to do

Hello,
There is a multitude of things that teen boys will like, First of all there is in animal kingdom the expedition everest ride and there is another cool ride at animal kingdom and its dinosours. Also there is rock n roll roller coaster at mgm. Best arcade would be at Downtown Disney and that is Disney Quest. Its a indoor interactive arcade and theme park. You can actually build your own roller coaster and then ride it. It is cool.

Yes...I HIGHLY recommend Disney Quest. My DH and nephew went there twice during our week stay. They loved it. I think all of the Disney Studios/MGM park will appeal to him- Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt show, Indiana Jones stunt show, RNR, Tower of Terror, Star Tours, Backlot Tour. My nephew who is now 14 (his last trip to WDW he was 12), says his favorite park is Animal Kingdom. Epcot has some great things too- Mission Space, Soarin' and Test Track- all great for teen boys. Magic Kingdom will probably have the least for him, but everything in Tomorrowland should appeal to him. Depending on when you go, I'm sure he would love one of the water parks too!

Also he could go surfing at the water park, 2 putt putt courses, and maybe a side trip to Universal Studios.

I really appriciate everyones suggestions. They are all great ideas. DQ is definitly near the top of our to-do list.

However, what we're really looking for are ideas about activities. We'll do all the rides, but I'm looking for Teen specific stuff. We're also interested in where he can "hang out" and meet kids his age.

If your looking for a place for him to just hang out my son when we went was 14 and he loved Disneyquest and downtown disney. i perosnally wouldnt really know other hang out places simply because I am a lil bit overprotective and wouldnt feel comfortable leaving him anywhere thats not in my eyes secured.

I just returned from WDW last night. I didn't see a whole lot of teenagers just hanging out unattended unless they were with a school group. I wouldn't worry about him not enjoying himself, there's just too much to see and do at WDW. I would just enjoy your family time with him while you still can and let him hang out with kids his own age when you get home. Don't worry, he won't be bored at Disney!

If he is rides person, Universal and Islands of Adventure are a must for a 1 day 2 park excursion.

Combined, they're my favorite park in the world....Cedar Point Ohio a close second.

I have a son who's almost that exact same age. We go to Disney a LOT since we're only an hour away, and he spends a fair amount of time off on his own (he has a cell phone and if he doesn't answer, he's stuck back with me for a while). Anyway, here's his favorite places to hang in each park. Folks have already told you about some off-park places like Disney Quest, and Boardwalk.

EPCOT: Innoventions (particularly the one with the house of the future)
Mission Space exit area (they have interactive games and computer activities)
Store in Japan
My son loves to sit and talk to the woodcarver in the African Outpost.
Club Cool (where you get the samples of Coke)

MGM:
Animation Studios (he's friends with a couple of the animators, and he "helps" by putting out the paper and pencils, and counting the number of people coming in).

This park is more of an active park for him, because there are a lot of rides/shows for teenagers. Lights Motors Actions should definitely hold your DS's attention, and there are two big thrill rides here too. Just avoid the Playhouse Disney and Little Mermaid area, and you should be good.

AK:
My son likes to watch the surgery out at Rafiki's Planet Watch.
He likes the bird show too.
This isn't a "hang-out" park for him. He rides what he wants, then goes back to the room.

MK:
Since VMK has closed down, my DS tends to hang around the Space Mountain arcade. That's the biggest one in MK.

He also sometimes watches over by the shooting gallery in Fronteir Land.

Hope you enjoy your stay!
