Labor Day Weekend

Headed to Disney August 30th to September 5th. Has anyone been on Labor Day weekend? I keep reading the parks aren't terribly crowded....comments welcomed.....

Also, on Labor Day itself, are the parks busy? AK has extra morning hours and Hollywood Studios has extra pm hours... these are the two parks I am choosing from. Any suggestions on which to do on Labor Day? Hollywood Studios is already open until 10 that even without the magic hours. Just stumped on what to do.

Hi, I've never been on Labor Day weekend. We booked the free dining and will be staying at Beach Club Resort, just DH and me.
We went in Feb 2008 (Mardi Gras week and it was really crowded, surpised me, but a lot of LSU fans (LA people who are tired of Mardi Gras go to Disney)
At least it may not rain as much as it does in July.
Have a great time!

We were there too--part of the purple and gold brigade! A couple of CM's and a few guests asked if there was an LSU alumni event that week in WDW!!! I told her this year, everyone was alumni!
But to the point--we've been on Labor Day before (my bday seems to fall around it every year) and we basically relax during the day (DTD, outlet shopping, etc.) and hit the parks around 4-ish. That seems to be a good time for people to be leaving, taking a break, etc. We never do AM EMH's, but LOVE those pm ones!

Hope you all have Wonderful Trips!

We were there last labor day weekend and it was rough! Universal was packed, MK was wall to wall people on Monday, DHS was horrible on Sunday!

Labor Day Weekend is typically pretty busy, but people define busy differently. For us if we have to wait more than 20 minutes or so in line for an attraction it's too busy, which is why we tend to travel to WDW at the same time every year when we are fairly sure the crowds will be tolerable for us.

We went to WDW and Universal last Labor Day weekend. Disney was pretty busy, but not overly crowded and it was definitely manageable. We went to MK and DHS on Thursday before Labor Day and it wasn't bad at all. Friday & Sat. we went to Universal, and we had no problems whatsoever. Lines weren't that long and it wasn't that crowded. I think my biggest surprise was evening EMH at MK on Sunday. The lines at BTMRR were about an hour wait. MK closed at 11 pm, so this was way after midnight. On Labor Day we went back to Universal parks, and I don't think we waited over 15 minutes for anything.

I think it's going to be busier than other weekends in September, but it's nothing like July 4th.

I would say, don't go at Labor Day. We were there last year, and even being from the South, the heat was unbearable!!! I thought one of my girls (11) was going to pass out at MK one night from the heat! The crowds were huge and it wasn't very pleasant. If you could go some other time, I would!

We are going September 1 - 8. Last year we went the Friday after Labor Day. My friend went the week of Labor Day. She said Labor Day was the only really busy day. On touring plans.com the week is filled with 4's on the scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the highest.

It IS very hot at that time -- I wasn't expecting that last year!

It's a typical weekend at WDW then. It's not overly crowded, but there will be lines at the "E-ticket" attractions.

Based on www.touringplans.com's crowd calendar, crowds look fairly low. 6s out of 10 - Sunday is only a 5. The prior week is 6s, the week following (Tuesday on) - 4s and 5s. When we went last year it was 5s and we had very short lines following Touring Plan's best days advice. A lot of walk-ons, with our longest lines around 20 minutes or so. We will be there this Labor Day, and I am anticipating lines of 20-30 minutes or less, based on what we experienced last year.

I was at WDW in 2006 over labor day weekend. We arrived on Saturday morning and stayed til the following Thursday. We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn, and there wasn't many people there at all. No lines, no waiting, room was assigned prior to our arrival because our packages we shipped down ahead of us were waiting in there when we opened the door.

Sunday we were at a wedding, so we weren't at the parks. So I can't speak to Saturday and Sunday in the parks.

However, we were in EPCOT on Monday (Labor Day itself) and it was empty. We had a character breakfast and then spent the day wandering around. No lines on any rides, no crowds at any restaurants, it was awesome! Then that Tuesday we were at Magic Kingdom and again, no lines. We walked onto everything we wanted to go on. It was fantastic. Best week of the year to go.

Edited to add - I made most of my dining reservations a week before our arrival, and got everything I wanted, lol. Not saying I recommend waiting, but it is awesome that it's so slow!

We've been there at labor day before-Actual labor day was busy, but the crowds dropped off dramatically the day after (like were nonexistent).

I'm glad to read that some of you have experienced less crowds during Labor Day. We had planned to go for July 4th week, but car problems have taken over those plans , so I opted to change to Aug 30-Sept 3 - short 4 night stay, but sometimes we have to make these compromises for our "mousely" visits.
We were lucky to get free dining and we will still be staying at GFR for the 1st time.
Maybe i'll see some of ya'll there!!

I am hoping the lines aren't too long on Labor Day. Made my dining reservation today, looks like I'm stuck at DHS on Monday either way..... I didn't add the park hopper option but I have a few extra days that I can back if its too crowded. We usually go the end of September when the lines are very minimal and the heat is starting to go down. This is a whole new experience for us. Regardless of heat and crowds, I will be at WDW.... that, in itself, makes everything else worth it!
