Confused about Disney Gift Cards??!!

OK here's my question:
Can I purchase a gift card for my DS that he can use throughout Disney World? If yes, where do I purchase it - from disneyshopping.com or some other site? I saw gift cards on disneyshopping.com but I didn't think they were really a part of Disney World?!
Thanks for the help!
Debbie

Here's the on line link - Disney Gift Card or you can get them at a Disney Store if you have one in your area. They are good pretty much anywhere at WDW where they take credit/debit cards. For example, some of the smaller snack stands don't take them.

specifically, the same cards are good at: DisneyShopping.com (which is Disney), the Disney Store (which is/wasn't/was), WDW, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Lines, Adventures By Disney, etc.

you can also buy them online from disneyland.com - they offer more designs.

They are also available on property at most retail locations.

They are gift cards and, if lost, the money on them is lost too. For that reason we tend to purchase them in $50 increments for our son.

Be careful that you don't purchase the disneyshopping.com online gift card. That card is different from the disney gift cards. The disneyshopping.com can only be used online, as the name applies. A friend was rushing through the gift card purchase and bought the wrong thing....

if the gift card is lost, the value is not. you need to report it lost/stolen and you will retain the balance at the time it's reported.

Quote:
Q: What should I do if my Disney Gift Card is lost or stolen?
A: Promptly call 1-877-650-4327 or Contact Us via email to report the card lost or stolen. Your Disney Gift Card will be 'frozen' and funds remaining on the card (at the time of the call) can be transferred onto a new card. An original proof of purchase receipt for the Disney Gift Card is required to transfer the funds onto a new Disney Gift Card.

Unless you are trying to spread out costs by buying the cards before your trip, I would just wait and buy the card once you get to WDW. You can buy them at your resort store. And make sure to keep the receipt with you, just in case it gets lost. write the card number on your receipt. They usually XXXXX out some of the digits.
You can keep reloading the card as needed. I use these for my smaller purchases so I don't need to use cash, and don't have to deal with change clanking in my purse.
